I had an appointment with my OB last week due to sharp pains in my lower abdomen. They took blood and did an ultrasound. Things looked okay but I had a cyst in my ovary and a bleed in my uterus. I eventually did bleed some but it was off and on spotting. I haven't had any spotting in a few days though I have had some more sharp pains, mostly on the right where the cyst is.

Today I got a call out of nowhere from my OB's nurse saying I had to go in to my hometown clinic (My ob is 1 1/2 hours away) to get a blood test ran because my progesterone levels were low... So I find out tomorrow how they compare.

How concerned should I be??? I've never had this issue in 3 pregnancies and I don't know what to think.

what was your level? i have low progesterone every time i am pregnant. OBs typically like it above 20 but i hve read anything over 5 is ok. Mine with this pregnancy was 18.5 and my midwife said that was good. they can put you on progesterone if it is too low, and that will help! good luck mama!

My ob's nurse said they like it above 20 and that it wasn't "Too low" but if she told me what the number was I didn't hear her, I was loading kids into car seats. THANK you...that makes me feel a lot better.

I've had pregnancies where my level was as low as 6...with progesterone supplementation it jumped right up. If it was over 15, you should be ok!

Well I'm a tad annoyed with my OB and his nurse. They never called me as they said they would on Friday so at 3:30 I called in and turns out they weren't working that day. (Weird to tell me you'll call on a day you're not working...but anyway...) Another nurse went and found the results for me and she said they had been 12 and the next test which was a week later came back at 15.5. My nurse still hasn't called me but I have an appt. on Thursday. Do I need to call again or am I safe to wait until Thursday? Any opinions?

Personally I'd call again. More because I'm a worry wart and less because it's an emergency. It's good that your levels rose on their own. My levels were low well before pregnancy so I was already on supplementation. Then I checked my levels after pregnancy and ON prescription rx, they were only 18. So we increased the levels and now they are good. I have to use a lot though. Now my levels are 41. I'm sure it will all be okay, but I would call them just to check since they were supposed to call you and discuss it anyway. I'd be annoyed too. Good luck.

Oi the saga continues! I went in today to fill the prometrium script and they told me "Your insurance isn't covering it and it's $216.00." *sigh* I left and went to my husband's office so he could call our insurance where we found out the OB had to fax them a paper...by this time it's 4:30 and the pharmacy closes at 5. Long story short that did not happen...so...hopefully I'll get it tomorrow but I'm sort of freaking out about the side effects.

Bree, is it prometrium that you take? Have you had any bad effects???

Thank you!

I've always taken prometrium, 200 mg a day vaginally (100mg am and pm) I've taken crinone, which is hella expensive, but found the prometrium works for us too. I don't really notice odd symptoms...really it makes me so I feel symptoms at all.
