I only know of one set of Midwives in the LR area and those are the ladies at Birth Works. I'm sure there are more, I'm just not familiar with them. I have no idea if Birth Works accepts Tricare.

Guess I'm not too much help! :

I believe the answer is yes, but I would call tricare or go to http://humana-military.com/ which is the Tricare webpage for this region. I think the # is 1-800-444-5445. I hope you find the information you need.

My sister called that number and all they told her was that they were covered but that they did not have a list that she could obtain from them. I suggested to her to look into how much it would cost without going thru them. When I had my dc it was not as much as I thought since I could pay it off over nine monthes, very do-able. Paying for the tub rental was the hardest bill out of all of that

Thanks for the info ladies

Let me call Mary (head midwife at Birth Works) today and I'll see if she does accept Tricare. Mary's phone number and both midwives' email addresses are here: http://www.littlerockmidwives.com/

Of course, we also have alot of doulas if you are interested. (I'm a student doula from Birth Works.) Let me know if you have any questions about Birth Works, I'd be happy to help you.

Okay, I talked with Mary (the midwife at Birth Works who has been practicing for 30 years). This is what she says in her email:

"It's not that I accept or don't accept any insurance. I would gladly accept any insurance, but the insurance companies don't accept me! They sometimes do accept us as "out of network". And, in fact, I know that Kim is trying right now to get us registered to be accepted "in network" by tricare. And they have, in the past reimbursed our clients, at least partially. But, because insurance companies are so arbitrary, and so slow in reimbursement, we have to have the client pay us up front and then we will try to help them get reimbursed for as much as possible. Of course, this reimbursement process is for midwife care, not doula care. I have not found out much about reimbursement for doula care. Although some insurance companies allow for it as "childbirth education."

(FYI: Kim is the other midwife at Birth Works.)

Hope this helps. You can always give Mary a call and she'll sit down with you to talk more specifically about it. Good luck!

I'm just a student doula. If you're interested in becoming a MW, you can always apprentice with the midwives at Birth Works.

I really don't know enough about the school to make a comment. Perhaps you could contact the school and ask to talk with some of their students... figure out if that's what you are looking for.

If you are looking for more people's comments on the Ancient Art of Midwifery school program, you should go to the midwiferytoday.com forums and into midwifery schools section or search it...it's very helpful.

Quick intro...I'm 19, getting married this fall, ttc around Oct. 08...I live in Cabot right now (then Searcy in June) and I'll be moving to NC in January to go to the La Matrona Holistic Midwifery program before moving somewhere else to try and find an apprenticeship.
