Last night I noticed a small lump on one side of the back of my 7 y.o. son's neck. It's small, maybe a half inch or less in diameter, and I can tell it's something under the skin, maybe a gland or lymph node or something. I don't really know how long it's been there. Any ideas what it might be, and why it appeared?

Call your pediatrician. My step-sister had a lump and it was a variety of lymphoma...no to scare you but better to be safe than sorry.

I had a swollen lymph node that got to the size of a ping pong ball when I was a teenager. I went to an Ear nose throat dr. and he stuck a needle in and drained it

We never did figure out what caused it to swell so large...Dr.said probably a virus.

We went to the dr. and apparently it is just a virus. I now remember pulling a wood tick off the top of his head last week so that could have had something to do with it.
