Your friend was very lucky to have the rash because so many of us have Lyme and never had the rash. I think the rash shows up 75% of the time. I used to live next door to Lyme CT. We all were diagnosed with Lyme. Me, family members, horses, dogs, friends, etc. According to my Lyme specialist the last time I saw her, Lyme never goes away. You end up treating symptoms as they occur. The longer you go without treatmant the worse it can infiltrate your body. A friend of mine was treated for first heart disease, second menopause, third a nervous system disorder and finally Lyme. 30 days on doxycycline she was a new person. I was treated for 7 months on antibiotics prior to getting pregnant. When I discovered I was pregnant the dr had me stop the doxycylcine immediately. She did not have me continue on another antibiotic. I have not had symptoms to treat since then whereas my MIL who left CT the same time I did is still suffering from symptoms and dealing with Drs who think she is crazy. My son has never shown any signs of Lyme. We moved away from CT the week I got pregnant so he has never been exposed except possibly through me. With Lyme there is so much not known. And so many Dr's have no idea about Lyme. You can have it and test negative, it can mimic everything from the flu to MS. If you PM me I can give you the name and number of the specialist I saw in CT for your friend to contact for more information on Lyme and pregnancy.
