M/S coming BACK in the 2nd tri???

526 Views 10 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  ChetMC
Oh, lordy, I feel awful. Almost 19 weeks and for the last 3 or so days I have constant nausea, which is *really* bad in the morning. I almost threw up three times this morning!

I had a bit of m/s in the 1st tri-- felt pretty rotten, though I never vomited. But by 13 weeks or so everything was fine! And now it's back????

Anyone experience this?

When that happened to me, it was my gallbladder. You didn't go into details, but, for me, I would be fine in the morning till I ate something then I would feel bad all day long, with vomitting and diarrhea.

Another thought, could be your blood sugar. Are you eating a protein snack before you go to bed?
Hmmm. I haven't actually vomited.

I've been wondering if it's related to hunger. I think I'm NOT getting enough protein and have been hungry in the middle of the night a lot recently.

I'll start adding in a pre-bedtime protein snack to see if that helps.

I get nauseous when my blood sugar gets low. Perhaps this is corresponding with a baby growth spurt? Maybe you are needing even more calories than you've been getting. I would try to eat frequently, and if you do start to get nauseous, eat something to bring your blood sugar up and then something to stabilize it (have some juice first, then some protein/fiber).

I eat an OIKOS (Stoneyfield Farm) yogurt right before bed every night. It has 14 grams of protein and prevents the middle of the night hunger. If I do wake up at night, I eat a yogurt then, too.

Well, I woke up STARVING last night, so I actually got up and ate 1/2 pb and honey sandwich and a yogurt.

And this morning I feel awful, awful, awful. Not sure if it's a blood sugar thing.

I have my next appointment in a bit over a week, I'll talk to my dr and see what she says.

If it *is* blood sugar, is it weird that I've never been nauseated while hungry before?
I still have it bad at 21 weeks. I had to go back on Zofran even. I was throwing up a lot in the 1st trimester, it turned to just contant nausea around maybe 17 weeks but over the last 2 weeks, I'm back to throwing up.

I had a 3 hour GTT already last month (I kept fainting so they wanted to check that out) & actually had my gall bladder out 2 years ago, so for me, I know it's neither of those. My OB just said that some people have MS that continues the whole time.

I hope you can find some relief.

I don't know if it's weird, but it seemed to come on pretty suddenly for me at some point about 10 years ago. I don't remember ever being nauseated when hungry before that.

It also might have something to do with B vitamins. I know B6 helps stabilize the hormones that stabilize blood sugar, and that's the thing they always tell pregnant women to take for nausea. Or, it could just be issues with those hormones related to pregnancy.

I'm feeling a little better today.

I had a really big dinner (after not eating much lunch) and wasn't hungry in the night for the first time in weeks.

This morning I only had one major nausea moment (so far, anyway!).

Interesting about the B vitamins. I need to be eating more green veg.

And yeah, it could just be those dang hormones!

girlzmommy, sorry to hear you're still suffering so much! I hope it doesn't last the whole pg for you. I have a dear friend who was seriously sick for the first six months of her 2nd pregnancy, but it eventually got much better. Crossing my fingers that you have it pass, too!

But what you have is not morning sickness. If you're on zofran, I don't think it's typical M/S. Check out our Hyperemesis Gravidarum thread, if you haven't yet.

OP, definitely check about your gall bladder or other issues, and certainly look at hyperemesis.org just in case. You never know.

I was sick till 22 wks then it came back at 32 wks and didn't go away until shortly after the baby was born.

I hope you feel better soon.

I still have to deal with the m/s and I'm at 39 weeks. For me it is definitely a blood sugar issue. I'm hypoglycemic, so until I get something into my stomach in the morning, anything can be a trigger (particularly smells). I've been keeping apples on hand - they have to be crisp and sweet/tart (Granny Smiths are too tart and something like a red delicious is too mealy), but I can eat one of those, wait 20 minutes and my stomach will settle down enough to eat a real breakfast.
I also have issues with nausea throughout my pregnancies. In my case, it's mostly low blood sugar, though I suspect that low blood pressure is also a contributing factor.
