So dh says there are two companies at this point he could get a job with in the Greater Boston Area.<br><br>
One is in Somerville, and the other is in Natick.<br><br>
Would it be reasonable to live in Malden and work at one of these places?<br><br>
Where else would be reasonable?<br><br>
We need to be close to Tufts-New England Medical Center and Boston Children's. But my dh needs to be close enough to home to get there in case of a crisis.<br><br>

Natick maybe a tad far in an emergency. Malden is nothing to somerville. Good luck!

Somerville is closer to Malden and Children's than Natick. For living, Medford or Arlington would also work for working in Somerville and getting into Boston.

You can get into Boston from Natick pretty quickly on the Mass Pike depending on the time of day. That would be a long commute to Malden though. You could look in Waltham and Watertown and Newton (Newtonville is nice and more affordable than Newton) to be on the same side of Boston as Natick and still close to the pike for emergencies. And then there's all the communities along route 9, although they can be pretty pricy.<br><br>
Living and working in Somerville/Arlington/parts of Cambridge/Medford is definitely do-able in relation to the hospitals.

I wish I could pull something out of a hat that had everything decided. BUT in lieu of that, this is really helping?<br><br>
Anyone have any other ideas? Working in either Natick or Somerville and needing to commute from home to hospital frequently. We will most likely rent.

Medford is right next to Somerville, so that's a non-issue, really. Natick isn't that far, about 25-30 minutes, but if commuting into Boston during rush hour...it's AWFUL <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/greensad.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="greensad"> I happen to love Somerville (we live next door in Cambridge) and it's got a hipster feel to it, also it's definitely a city, whereas Natick is a suburb, so it also depends on which kind of environment you'd prefer. Also, fyi, my husband works for Children's Hospital.

*sigh* Nevermind. I totally misread your post. You asked about living in MALDEN and commuting to Somerville or Natick. Malden isn't far from Somerville, and is probably a 30-45 minute commute to Natick. However, going that way, it seems to me he'd be doing a reverse commute, so it probably wouldn't get much worse than that even during heavy traffic times.<br><br>

i would pick the malden area personally - at rush hour the pike is terrible and around here rush hours are like 7-930a and then 330-7ish which is such a long part of the day... if you lived in malden or even medford, getting from somerville would not even mean having to drive on 93 (which is also bad) - but from a person living in Medford and my fiance who used to work out past natick on the pike, getting through that area to get over here is sooooooo bad!! i wouldnt wish that commute on anyone. also living in malden or medford you could take the t to childrens (i think) which could prove handy if you dont like driving in the city! (plus i think its closer too)
