I found out recently that a mom here sent me a package of HH, that never arrived
Now that I know it is missing, I am upset. I have never had a package get lost before, though. I called the po, and they are trying to track it down, although it did not have a tracking tag or insurance (I didn't know they would even try...) Anyway, this led me to thinking...

Have you ever lost a diaper package?
Do you always buy insurance?
Did you ever have a package that you were sure was lost eventually show up?

Any experiences shared is good, positive ones DEARLY appreciated.

I just recently had a problem. I bought a dress/diaper set off Ebay. The WAHM said she sent it off on a saturday priority. It took nine days to get here. I called the PO. They said priority would never take that long. I think most "shipping" problems are actually WAHM/seller problems.

I feel your pain. I can't seem to catch a break lately as far as mail is concerned. In my case I know some of it has to do with customs but for the most part I can't imagine what they are doing with my packages
For diapers and such it's usually surface mail so I expect them to be awhile but for fabrics when I pay for airmail I kinda expect it to get here sooner rather than later kwim? Maybe it's on the wrong plane or something lol.

Sorry for adding my woes...but I do know where you are coming from!

THEY LIE!!!! :LOL I have had priority mail take a week to ten days a few times when I have sent things out. I know of one time someone sent me a package priority and it took 15 business days (nearly 3 weeks)! As a matter of fact I'm waiting on something right now that was sent out on the 19th and still isn't here.

I agree...talk to someone else and they'll tell you...priority is not guaranteed priority!
I've both had sent packages and packages coming my way, take WAY longer than normal. And I despise the USPS tracking system. It only works if they actually scan the bar!
I sent out 2 weeks ago, a mass of packages, using the green tracking slips from the PO because my printer head is needing to be replaced. Got them all stamped and stuff so I had proof of shipping, but those numbers DID NOT show up in the system until they were actually delivered. In the past I've had them delivered but never show up in the system at all!

That is actually the SECOND package sent to Alaska that was lost. With the first one I was told that even priority mail can take up to 6 weeks to get to Alaska, well it has been probably close to 6 months

Although I have only had I think 3 lost packages, it seems as though orders are taking longer and longer to get to their destination through the p.o. I have sent packages on the same day, one to the East coast and one in my state, both priority. The east coast one arrive much quicker than the in-state one which should have been there over night but took roughly 9 days.

When mailing my packages from home, they always have delivery confirmation on them, when mailing from the p.o. they don't always, basically I forget to ask.

Also, something that the customers need to keep in mind is a new issue with delivery confirmation. The p.o. is NO longer scanning delivery confirmation when it is picked up from a meter mailed place. Which means that all of us who use stamps.com, paypal, endica, and so on don't have the delivery confirm scanned until it reaches your house. I can mail a package and it will show as "the p.o. has been notified of a package being electronically shipped ...." It does not show the pick up date like it used to. When it is scanned in either at your p.o. or your home it will show as being delivered to that place, most but not all of the time.

So when a wahm provides you with the delivery confirm number and it does not show as scanned in, this does not mean it was not picked up, it only shows another place the p.o. has cut back.

I do believe thereare a small handful of wahms who don't ship when they claim to, some not at all, and because of those few bad apples it makes everyone question whether someone is telling the truth or not. The vast majority of wahms really do ship when they say they have. Packages really do get lost, and priority can take forever, global priority which is supposed to be 4-7 days can actually take up to 6 weeks, with stops on the wrong side of the world before it reaches its destination.

OK, my $.02 for today, I am not too happy with the p.o. lately, but the bottom line is it is cheaper to ship USPS than most other companies for small packages, and most customers want the cheapest shipping possible.

I don't usually delivery confirmation or insurance, unless it's over $30 worth of stuff. I have only ever had one package lost, and it was from a mom here on MDC. One of the first things I bought. It still hasn't ever shown up, and it's been a LONG time.

I ALWAYS get delivery confirmation. I know it doesnt do much for you if the package gets lost but I feel like if the mail carriers see the sticker on there they are more careful NOT to lose it (in my little world anyway
) Plus I can see that it did arrive, etc.

I rarely get insurance unless its something super valuable because it really ups the cost of shipping.

I know, this is so frustrating!!! The only way for it to really work is to take all the packages to the post office, wait in line and MAKE them scan it which defeats the whole purpose of me mailing from home. Some stuff arrives and never gets scanned (one of the reasons I no longer give out the delivery conf # unless asked)

I've noticed stuff mailed from home takes a few days longer than if I mailed it from the post office.

I JUST had this happen to me -- I got something from the TP and the mama gave me the dc number and even though it had been 4 days it still said "the p.o. was notified to pick up, etc." I got the package last night and the USPS site never said they had it! Its like, what is the point of DC if you dont confirm that it was delivered?

Ever since a custom order got lost in the mail, i get insurance on EVERYTHING that is important. Seems like it makes it go faster too, LOL. My custom from Carli of FM in Washington state only took a day and a half to get to me with insurance, LOL, but other packages take a week or longer from mid US to get here.

The custom of mine that was lost, the WAHM was nice enough to send me a replacement, but it hasnt gotten here either and a BUNCH of other packages have. I am starting to think I will never see my custom and I will just be SOL.

yeah for some reason when they use stamps.com to print out their labels and it has DC, the DC never gets scanned, it sucks because you never really know if they sent it or if it was received.

Whats frustraing is customers saying they never recieved a package and once I tell them I'll head over to the post office, I never hear from them again.
I understand packages get lost in fact I got an email last week claiming they never got their package and I know it was mailed off. I emailed this customer again a few days ago and still no response. Urghh...my stomach drops every time someone tells me they didn't get their package because I would hate for something to be lost.

I've had two fluff packages go missing; both from MDC mommas. One was sent in February before I quit my job (and I was totally counting on that stuff for nighttime diapering when we were making the switch to CD!), other was maybe 2-3 weeks ago. I just think the PO is evil sometimes.

I don't get insurance religiously, but do on occasion if it's something I'll cry over if it doesn't make it here.

I haven't lost packages for other stuff though, just diaper stuff. I wonder how many postal employees cloth diaper...

I'm waiting on several packages from the tp now. I sure hope they come. It would be nice if we let eaach other now if we're mailing things priority or parcel post. Then we know how soon to start looknig for it. Also when to start complaining at the PO. Seems to me the longer its gone the harder the package would be to find.

It does seem like the PO service is getting worst! I totally agree that we pay for DC for nothing as they rarely scan them. Arggggg.

I always get a DC number because the one time that I decide not to will likely be the time that a package gets lost.

Also - I never buy insurance unless I have a receipt showing the value of the items. I was told by a postal employee that insurance is useless if you can't prove how much it was worth by showing a receipt. So, no insurance for us.
