The threads about favorite words and questions were entertaining, maybe this one will be too!

When me and dd (2 1/2) are in the car she likes to make up songs, today I asked her to make up a song about a pig (she was pretending to be a pig all morning)
So, it went something like this:
"once there was a pig, he lived on the farm, he went by the water to get a drink with the sheep, then came an alligator, the alligator ate him, alligator lives in old water, there was a duck in the water duck duck duck duck duck..... "

It kind of went to the tune of pop goes the weasel

Awww, that was a good one!

Yup, making up songs is a favorite pastime around here as well. We have a whole set of recordings of them.

Most are actual words but my daughter also has a language that she made up and many are in this language. She tells me what they are about and will sing the same song many times over a long period.
Due to her obsession with Cat in the Hat and Dr. Seuss, this language is called Suess language an dthey speak it in Seussland which is where the many strange cats live including Loaf(a cat made of bread), Garung(a pickle cat) and Norveny(a cat in a hat with a giant swirly bow tie)-yes, it can get a bit strange at my house and I have only just told you the surface details!

Anyway, one of her favorite songs to perform is a Seuss language one. We (friends and family) all know the words to this one as it's been a regular for about a year now. It's called Osaya which is "hello" in Seuss.

We had quite a few during the dinosaur/prehistoric phase she went through as well.
"Eryops, eryops, you can't wipe their eyes!
Eryops, eryops, they won't eat some flies..."
I think you get the idea!

DD makes up songs constantly, and they even rhyme. The problem is that she tends to sing them in this bizarre-o high voice such that they're hard to understand--which frustrates me, because they're so neat!

I think your DD and mine would get along. Our cast of imaginary cat characters includes Flundeen, Other Kitty Butternut, Manamoon, Bessie, and Leah. LOL! YUp, they would definitely relate. My daughter would be thrilled with your name as well since she's into anything that relates to Dr. Seuss.

Wow, how weird a co-incidence is that?!

Yes, dd has been making up songs for about a year now. It's pretty funny - sometimes they have a new tune, sometimes it's new words to an old tune.

And she's nearly always an animal. Thanks to Diego, they tend to be a bit odd - I spent part of a day last week being a mother to two baby sloths (named "ee ee" and "tootle").

Hey Hannahsmummy, my DH just found a kids' Lorax toothbrush at Target, FYI. My DD will be thrilled (she also loves Dr. Seuss--and how can you not??)

I should have mentioned that our one *actual* cat is named Butternut.

Yours isn't black and white with a mustache and beard and somewhat anti-social... kind of... anti-human... all "cat", but willing to accept some petting on his own terms?

Dd does this too, although she isn't a Diego fan so I'm not sure where it comes from.

We play a deer counting game when we drive home in the evening - you have to guess the exact number of deer we'll see. The other day she asked 'do baby deers count?' We decided it would actually be okay if a baby deer was worth two deer points. She sat there and thought for a second and then said 'Do gazelles and antelopes count?'
