I used to do that. I'd make my own food and then put it in the little glass jars. Just leave a bit of room at the top of the jar to allow for expansion. I never had a jar crack.

I've also never had a problem with glass jars - leave room at the top, and let it warm up slowly, and you should be fine. I would defrost by taking it out the day before I planned on using it, and setting it in the fridge. If it needed more defrosting the next day, I'd run it under warm water.

I have to be honest though, it bothers me to hear that you are planning on taking food from WIC with the sole intention of dumping it down the drain. There are mamas and babies that really need that food, and if you aren't going to use it, you should refuse it. My sister is on WIC, and she makes her own food, and she refuses all the baby food and collects jars from friends and family.

Just leave them somewhere on your way out - they'll pick them up.

You get baby food in glass jars from WIC? I only got juices and boxed baby cereal.

You could use the glass baby food jars just leave some room like the pp's said. You could defrost them in a bowl of hot water or quicker in a crock pot with a small amount of water. What's better IMO is using ice cube trays and freezing them and then pop out a cube or two to defrost. Honestly I would either use or donate the baby food rather than dump it down the drain, I'm not a fan of gerber but it seems like a waste to me
