I'm in Flemington. Any other alternative parenting types around here? (Breastfeeders, cloth diaperers, baby-food making, unschooling, sling-wearing, pro-choice, punk hair-dying, liberal parenting, otherwise freaky mamas?) Any of the above?

Anyone who dreams of starting a co-op type school (or even a charter school) because long-term home/unschooling isn't a possibility for you? Yeah, that's way too much to ask!

So come on, where are the NJ mamas?

Flemington is in Central NJ, pretty near the PA border.

My partner's brother and SIL are in South Jersey -- Millville. It's about 2 hours from us, maybe a bit less on a good day.

Maybe there will be enough Jersey mamas for a get-together!

I live in Ewing. I'm about a half hour south of you! There are (or were, I don't know who's still here) of us in the area, actually.

Let's see: You said Breastfeeders, cloth diaperers, baby-food making, unschooling, sling-wearing, pro-choice, punk hair-dying, liberal parenting, otherwise freaky mamas

Well, I'm not breastfeeding right now, but I will be when my second DC is born in March. DD is almost done with diapers, but she's still in cloth at night and sometimes when we're out. I didn't make baby food, but only because DD wouldn't eat it. She never liked purees. I will homeschool-- can't say about unschooling, haven't thought that far ahead yet. I have 6 slings. Quite pro-choice. I don't dye my hair, though; I'm more granola than punk these days. I've mellowed in my old age!
I used to have a crew cut, though. Does that qualify? And my neighbors think I'm a circus freak, so that covers freaky. Liberal, yup, that too.

And I'd love to find alternative educational options for DD.

I think I qualify!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously though I love making new friends! Hi!

My hair isn't too funky but otherwise I qualify.

I'm in High Bridge, which is right near Clinton. So I'm about 15 minutes from you!!

We should do a get-together. As Llyra said, we've done a few in the past.

There is actually a co-op preschool that a few mamas in the area started. If you want more info. let me know and I'll hook you up with the people. Sounds like something you'd be interested in.

You should also check out our Holistic Moms Network. It's a pretty active group with playdates and events. Monday night there is a 2-year anniversary HMN celebration at St. Paul's Lutheren church in Flemington (next to Hunterdon Medical Center).

Let's pick some time soon and do a get-together. We've met at Deer Path Park in the past.

I'll start a thread with a list of dates for a get-together. I like planning these things.

OT: Llyra, how are you doing? I'll PM ya.

This is great!

I would love more info on the co-op preschool, kbridi. And get-togethers would be awesome. I wouldn't be opposed to having everyone here at some point either, we've got a huge yard, as well as goats and a sheep that are always up for playing petting zoo.

Oh, yay! I'd love to get together!

Jessy1019, my DD LOVES goats. They're her favorite animals! She'd get such a kick out of seeing some.

(Hijacking the thread to catch up with an old friend.)
Hi, Kim! I'm okay. Morning sickness is kicking my butt right now, and by 4 pm I can barely hold my head on top of my neck I'm so tired. Hopefully that'll pass in a few weeks, though. Otherwise, I'm doing well. I'm still working a lot, but I'm going back to just 10 hours after Labor Day so I'll have time to visit again!

After I posted this morning, our friend came knocking on the door and said that the goats were down the road . . . . they've never done anything like that before, the little buggers.

You're welcome to bring your daughter to meet them, though. They're very friendly and tame, and the love treats if she would enjoy feeding them. We should arrange something.

I live in Milford and a crunchy-mama-in-training to 2yo b/g twins. Not unschooling, but waldorfian in nature with quaker tendencies. I wish there was a nature loving charter school, but the nearest one is in Blairstown (way too far for us).

I wouldn't call myself freaky, but I am definately out of the mainstream.

Definately should try to hook up with the Hunterdon Holistic Moms Network, they just started doing meeting in Flemington.

I'm kinda overwhelmed right now; if you read my siggy maybe you'll see why!
I'm living in the Land of Morning Sickness and it sucks. However, I figure I'll start feeling better in a few weeks-- anybody wanna get together, maybe at Deer Path Park like Kim said?

Hi Jessy-

We're planning to move to NJ in the next few months (from NH), and Flemington is one of the areas we're considering. How do you like living there? Are there places to walk/hike in the area?

I'm a crunchy mom-to-be (any day now!) and would like to learn more about the area.

Consider the Princeton or Plainsboro area of Central NJ. You might really like it around here.

Re: Quaker

We go to the Princeton meeting. There's also a few Buddhist meetings in our neck of the woods, but lately we've only made it to the Quaker ones. I went to a Quaker school when I was young. Very crunchy, very nice.

We like Flemington pretty well, but it's starting to get built up and we've actually considered fleeing to a different state.
I grew up in Martinsville, which is fairly close to Basking Ridge and Flemington is MUCH better.

And medea, I dream of sending my kids to Ridge and Valley Charter School. It's too far for us as well, and I wish I knew how to go about starting something like that here . . . it sounds amazing.
