I am so upset and worried..

I put ds in a snappied (the new style snappi) prefold and since I was in a hurry I didn't check to see if his penis was down. I ran to the store and came back when I came back I noticed his penis sticking over the top and bent.

I took off the snappi and his penis was a ballooned.

Tell me what happened exactly? After I saw it I was in shock and though oh no!

I touched it and urine came out. I think the pressure from the snappi stopped him from being able to urinate.

What do I do now?

first of all

I hardly ever have time to check where it's pointing either. If I take the time, I usually get an unpleasant shower :LOL

and if he wasn't fussing about it, I doubt it's truly injured

does it look normal now after he has been able to urinate, or is it still ballooned?

it looks normal now. It went down after I took the prefold off and touched it the urine ran out.

maybe I'm worrying about nothing but I feel horrible

I just started doing the bikini twist and was really liking my prefolds and the new snappis. Now I don't know if I can use them anymore

as long as he's not acting like he's in pain, and it looks normal and has good coloring...I would think it's okay.

and you're not worrying about nothing. That would have totally freaked me out too.

Did the prefold/snappi somehow shift while you were out and entrap his poor little wee?

when I put Ethan in prefolds, I always have to fold the front down because they are a bit too long for his rise (the regular size) but that creates a bit of a bulky ridge above where I snappi and that usually keeps the snappi from riding up.

Thanks mamas! He's not acting like he's in pain..he just peed on me..since he's in his birthday suit

He's still wearing infant. I think the rise is getting to low, that's where my problem is.

so glad he's okay

I wish they made prefolds in a size between infant and regular. I keep contemplating trimming the regulars because they are too long, but the infants are way too short.

Was it just the part where the foreskin is that ballooned? If so this is actually quite normal. In fact, many boys go through a stage where when they pee, their foreskin balloons with urine. I wish I could find a link about it to show you. It's actually quite normal. Just not seen as normal in a circ-happy world!

TracyRee, I would always point my son's penis down so the urine would have less of a chance to rocket out of the top of his diaper and so it wouldn't get caught in any uncomfortable positions.

I never use snappies because I just couldn't stretch something like that over DS. I was always worried about it the few times I used one.

Yes Claire just the foreskin.

I've been using snappis forever with Andrew, Jack and never had a problem.

I completely second Spark.

Sometihng simaliar happened to my son, and my dh was ready to toss all our snappis saying they were hurting ds' penis. Then ds' foreskin balloned while he was wearing a fitted.

Ya know...this may be the key to our odd diaper leaky nights!! I swear it's the sleep deprivation making me this stupid. Usually I at least have common sense!!!

It sounds like it's perfectly normal. All (intact) penises balloon when peeing, my son does it all the time, sometimes when I'm in the middle of changing his dipe so I know when to cover him up quickly :LOL

ballooning is normal and can happen with or without a snappi, but I bet it was scary seeing it happen for the first time!
