I am so upset and worried..

I put ds in a snappied (the new style snappi) prefold and since I was in a hurry I didn't check to see if his penis was down. I ran to the store and came back when I came back I noticed his penis sticking over the top and bent. I took off the snappi and his penis was a little ballooned.

Tell me what happened exactly? After I saw it I was in shock and though oh no!
I touched it and urine came out. I think the pressure from the snappi stopped him from being able to urinate.

What do I do now?

He's probably just fine.

I have a son after 3 daughters, so the diaper changes have been interesting. :LOL Everyone warned me about getting peed on in the face (something which I have since learned seems to be mostly a circ'ed baby thing
: ) so it didn't occur to me what was happening one day when I changed DS's diaper and his penis was HUGE :LOL All I could think is he must be having some bizarre allergic reaction or horrible disease. I completely missed the fact that he was peeing all over the carpet :LOL Ballooning is perfectly normal

Your DS's penis is forgiving I promise....the human race would have had a very short stay here on earth if something so minor could cause great harm. Even if your son's penis did get a bit smooshed, it should fluff back up in no time
Good luck!!!!

I would say it's fine. My dh put a snappied prefold on ds, but not a cover when ds was first walking. The bottom of it came undone, so the front of teh diaper fell and the bottom of the snappi got caught on his penis. He was fine. That was probably worse than what your ds just went through. LOL!

It was probably just his foreskin folded over and his penis wasn't effected at all. And even if it really was his penis, if he's peeing, he's fine.

Yep, penises are both delicate and tough and resilient at the same time. If your son wasn't screaming his head off, it's doubtful there is anything to worry about.

One of these days, he will be pulling and stretching it in ways you can't even imagine and he'll just be playing with it. It will look very painful to you but to him, it'll feel sooooo good!

i'm thinking the two events may be coincidence. yes, he may have been bent, but he probably just happened to have to pee at that moment you saw it. my ds will balloon sometimes, right before the stream comes..... if something really hurts, they will let you know before you have a chance to walk away from the diaper change....

shaylahc - my ds is not circ'ed and from newborn to a couple months old... he tried to get us all the time.... now, it could be we just didn't know the right time to take the darn diaper off (and kept getting hit) but i jumped out of the way of many a stream....

Thanks everyone
I know he'll be pulling on it etc. My older boys pull on their and my oldest DS retracted himself a few times when he was 3 he lost interest pretty quickly.

This was just strange looking I've never seen it balloon like that. By penis I meant his foreskin..it was all ballooned up. He seems fine though

Hmm, maybe you should have tried EC.
You might have been picking up on his cues and not knowing it.

Yep. I should have ec'd ds2 cuz I was picking up on his cues. But I ddn't know anything about it and was too lazy to learn, so I pretty much taught him to pee and poop in diapers. Oh well. Maybe I'll give it a try w/ #3.

Yes Yes Yes The sooner the better. We started an 5 months old when I found out and I wish I had found out earlier.

If you do it...... I would be willing to share my experience with you in the hopes that it would help you do it with greater peace than we did. Let me know.

edited to explain what I mean by greater peace. The expectation to be absolutely successful, meaning that you always catch whatever is being excreted can catch you unaware. Really, EC it is all about good communication, being in tune and "going with the flow". All transitions take time: my advise would be to approach EC the same way as watching a baby learn to walk, talk, eat............
