looking for some support here...
ds2 has severe reflux. the past 3 months have been such hell. he is hurting so much of the time and it's so hard to watch. this past month he stopped growing: he does have a GI ped and we met with him for the first time last week. he took him off all his meds prescribed by his normal ped and started something omeprozale and mylanta supreme before feedings. the whole ordeal is just so draining. he screams 90% of his day. just ear piercing screams while he arches and stiffens up. half the time i have to pump milk and squirt it into his mouth with a dropper to get him to eat at all. on days when he won't stop puking we have to add organic rice cereal to the ebm to keep it down. the issue is compounded by ds1 needing attention. i feel like i'm stiffing him of so much time between the pumping and squirting milk and baby bouncing/walking/etc... thankfully ds1 loves his baby brother and is always trying to help him stop crying. we have no family or friends here that can take ds1 at the spur of the moment or help out with ds2 so it's just me while dh is at work for 9hrs a day. ds1 does go to daycare a few days aweek to play with other kids his age and get more one on one attention than he can get from me. to add ot everyhthing , all ds2 medical bills are really breaking us. we have to drive into St.Louis to get to his doctor and his meds can only be filled there as well. any ohter moms' experience this? how did you take care of 2 kids when one is really sick? i just feel like i'm drowning.

I am a single mother and I have two kiddos.. My youngest is quite fragile.. but to take care of both of them I get my oldest involved in the care with my youngest.. He loves helping me out with stuff and he thinks he is such a big boy. He will even use his breastpump while I use mine..

Have you tried finding a mommy group in your area?

All of my kids had reflux. My first had it the worst. The one thing that finally worked was Prevacid and she was on it until she was 3 1/2. My other kids did fine on Zantac. I don't know what that med is that you mentioned. If he has been on the med for a week it should be working......If you see no improvement by Tuesday I would call and let the doc know.

I'm so sorry you are having such a hard time. I remember when my DD was throwing up all day and we would just sit in a house covered in blankets and towels. It was so depressing and sad. I hope you find something that works.

you might want to check out infantreflux.org forums.

if the prilosec isnt working-your dose is too low. most doctors underdose PPI's in infants. my son was like a different child after we got the correct dose of prevacid-the marci-kids.com recommended dose. he was on the verge of a feeding aversion before we got the PPI dose correct. the next step would have been tube feeding.

he was on 15mg of prevacid daily and the GI took him off saying it was too much. we used to give him one of those dissolvable tablets in a med dropper mixed with water.

thanks for the info on the websites!

thats typical. i had to contact marci kids.com and they called our doctor for proper dosing. my son was started on 24 mg at 3 months and he is now on 32 mg. he did not respond to lower doses and i was NOT going to sit back and let my baby become tube fed. i would find a new GI. good luck. its not right for your baby to be in that much pain. the esophogus is being damaged and can lead to pre cancerous cells and other complications. my grandma has barretts esophogus from untreated gerd.

My baby had reflux symptoms and was greatly helped by cranio-sacral therapy. Once his tightened muscles relaxed, he digested his milk easily. Now we are happily trying to find a new home for the Tucker Sling that we bought to reduce his reflux.

I'm so sorry!!! you've got some awesome suggestions already, just wanted to pop in to give hugs, and assure you that it does get better. It's just finding the right meds, and time. We used a tucker sling/wedge combo until dd was 11 months old, and it was a lifesaver. HUGE HUGS!! My daughter is also on prilosec. During the hard times, Carafate worked wonders, it really helps with the pain. We also used the mylanta cherry supreme. She is on that as well as tagament as needed for breakthrough pain. it does take some time for the ppi to kick in. If you feel it's not working, call the GI...it's a rollercoaster of trial and error to get reflux under control ( just speaking from our experience)

I am so sorry. HUGS I hope things get better for you. I am the mom of 5 kids with acid reflux. Our youngest is 3 1/2 weeks and we are trying to get her reflux under control. We hold Maggie almost all the time which helps a lot. I am just getting good at doing things one handed.
