Were you pressured to have your tubes tied during your third section? I just had my second c/s and they had the consent for a tubal all ready to go. No thanks. My OBs tell me that the risk goes "way up" after the 3rd section, so they think I should have no more than 3 children. DH and I have always been undecided on 3 or 4, so I'd like to not do anything permanent. Obviously this won't be an issue for a few years since DD is only 5 weeks old, but I was just wondering what I'm in for.

while i haven't had 3 (on my way to 2) my ob did ask this time (on the while we're in there basis) but also replied "good" when i said no. i wouldn't let anyone pressure you into anything. other obs have said more than 3 is fine but at also depends on personal history, scarring etc- not just a in general basis. plus in my opinion 4 isn't much different than 3.

I was 23 and they asked (twice!) before we went in for my second c-section. I said no and had a vbac with my third baby, and am planning to do so with this one too.

No pressure at all.

Statistically, the risk does go up exponentially. I talked to a perinatologist who seemed really impressed by the graphs. My own OB assured me that given my history, a fourth would be fine. Ask what factors make a fourth so risky and why you fall into the high risk category.

I have had four sections and never felt pressured into having a tubal. my midwife asked me while I was pregnant with #3 (I was attempting a vba2c so it was more of a *if* you end up having a c-section are you interested in getting your tubes tied?).

I was asked a couple months before my scheduled section for #4. This time it was both my midwife (I continued to see her for prenatal care) and her back-up OB who was doing the section, asking me. I know they wanted a consent form filled out at least one month before the birth if a tubal was desired... That way you weren't making any last minute decisions and they could plan ahead for the time needed during surgery.

I declined and not a word was said otherwise. My mom asked me as well (she is also a midwife) and I know that she was worried about the risks of a fourth c-section (which, btw, was my easiest surgery and recovery) and is even more worried about me having a fifth c-section... but even she has never pressured me or questioned my decision. Or DH for that matter. There's no way he will ever get a vasectomy.

anyway, long answer
but nope, zero pressure.

Yes. It was at my 3rd actually. Though they never said a word at my 4th or 5th.

I wouldn't get a tubal under any circumstances.

I've only had 2.
During my second, I had to tell at least 3-4 different people that I was not having a tubal.
Even as I was being opened up, a nurse asked, "are we doing a ligation?"
I had to exclaim, "no!" as I was vomiting from the spinal block.

Very unsettling.

Hi all,
I have had C-sections with both my boys and was not asked either time. I was irrationally nervous the 2nd time around, until they got started. I was convinced they had not given me enough numbing drugs and petrified of feeling them cut me. (Which is ridiculous, bc I am highly sensitive to any kind of pain killers.) I think I read too many horror C-section stories before.

This time I will have a planned, scheduled section. My first had to be taken out due to severe preeclampsia at 36w5d. My second was fine until 37w2d and then my body started going haywire again- also had to be taken out. I was bummed at first bc I was trying SO hard for a VBAC and was close to going into labor.

I have dealt with my issues about never having a vaginal birth and am just excited for this time around. Hey- No pushing, no tearing, no stretching- I get to go home with my beautiful baby and an unaffected ya-ya.

Glad to know there is a forum like this!

I have five children, all born by csection.

The last baby was born early, had some complications, I however had some serious complications. My OB/GYN does them on a case by case basis. She advised I never get pregnant again and I had my tubes tied. ( I was done though) The csections before the last were easy peasy.

No pressure at all but they asked before my first - which ended up a c-section but we had planned for vaginal. I think it was just to make sure that I wasn't going that route ahead of time. I was asked before my second birth as well, which was another unscheduled c-section.
