When did you find out you're carrying twins?

I'm 11 weeks, and I am keeping myself awake at night with worry that it's twins (my mom went to a psychic who said it may be twins and ever since then...WORRY!).

Did you find out at that first visit when they do the doppler? Or the ultrasound?

Please tell me we'll have time to find a new house in case it is twins! I can't imagine not knowing until 20 weeks! YIKES!

I don't have confirmation of twins, yet, but let me say, I know exactly what you mean!
We had intended to stop at 2, and now I could be going from 2 to 4! Yikes...
I have measured five weeks ahead at my last two appointments, and aside from a few other little 'signs' I actually felt a baby move on the outside last night. I'm pretty sure 12.5 weeks is considered a little early for that, right? Maybe not, but we only heard one heart beat last time, and had trouble finding it, so maybe my worry is for nothing. Of course, I would be thrilled, after I got past the denial stage.

ghuaghua, I'm 14 weeks with a singleton and I felt it move from the outside last night. Of course, it scurried to lower and deeper in my uterus right away so I couldn't get DH to feel it, but it was cool!

I'm glad to hear that someone else experienced it too. Mine seemed to be stuck under my right rib! My mom could even feel it there, as could my husband.

I found out at my 6.5 week u/s after ivf. The doppler does detect the heart beats however twins tend to synchronize. My twins were both 160 exactly at the last u/s. My uterus has always measured a few weeks ahead and my hcg levels would triple in 24 hours. I seem to be fine now but the m/s was awful.. I hope this helps. Good luck

Under your rib? Are you sure you're due in June? Are you an extremely tiny person? Any way it could have been gas in your newly-rearranging bowels?

I have nothing constructive to add for the OP... so actually you can just ignore me!

: That's what I was thinking. Your dates must be wrong or you must be tiny. My twin uterus is just below my belly button.

LOL...When I'm lying down my uterus is right at my bellybutton, when I sit up it presses just under my rib. Probably more like my gallbladder, because that was the whole thing that got me started with pressing that area, thus baby moving around. I'm not extremely tiny, but on the smaller side as far as weight goes. But yeah, it was definitely a baby. As for dates, we are going by a standard LMP.

Twins in our family. I have the same worries Momma's. Plus as hard as I try not to I relize looking back that I'm following my mothers life, every turn I take. So according to the prescripted story I'm destined to have twins and all signs point to it so far. 20 weeks sure is a long time to wait...

Speaking of twins in the family, does anyone else, (esp. those with confirmed twins) have any in theirs?

My mom is an identical twin, and I have two second cousins who just had twins, both which I believe were fraternal.

I am convinced I'm having twins. Go look in the belly thread for my ginormous 10-week belly.

My great grandmother was a twin. My mom's cousins are twins, and my grandmother miscarried with twin boys. It's my generation's turn to have twins! Those are all on my mother's side.

I am a gemini, and I keep dreaming in duality (like buy one and get one for a friend cherry (?!?) sandwiches, etc.)

The heartbeat was WAY over on the left side, so I'm convinced there's another one on the right side.

My husband thinks it would be so awesome if we had twins, and I agree. We're totally up for them.

We have one set of (nearly six-year-old) twins already, and certainly aren't hoping to have twins this time around. But we do worry about it, and I think we will continue to worry until we get some sort of confirmation that there's only one baby.

With our five-year-olds, we found out at 6 weeks. I had an ultrasound that early because I was CONVINCED that I was having twins (and my hcg levels at 14 dpo were quite high, and I'd taken clomid). I was quite sick and measured big right from the start.

My dw, who's now pregnant with our fourth, is herself a spontaneous fraternal twin. Besides that, we don't have any "risk" factors for twins this time around. Dw's HCG levels were high and doubled quickly, and she's been relatively sick, and her uterus seems a little bigger than maybe it should (but I don't think it's that reliable at this point in the pregnancy). For whatever reason, her acupuncturist (who she's been seeing for the m/s) suspects twins. I think it's quite unlikely that she's having more than one baby, but I can't wait to know for sure! At least we already have a minivan

I am now 16.5 weeks, and am convinced that there are two. We refer to babies, my 3year old dd kisses my belly twice, and I have been feeling them move since 10.5 weeks. My grandmother miscarried twin boys, and I have multiple sets on my mothers side. My mother in law had fraternal twins, and she is even telling me its twins. Although we have decided not to have a sonogram, we are curious how we can find out if there is more than one in there?? Does anyone know?? With my dreams, ever so vivid and normally about twins, and my gut instinct that says its one of each, I just believe that that is what I am going to have. By the way, 4th and 5th child, doing a homebirth--is that stupid with twins??

Thank you,

bj

Without an ultrasound I think the only way to confirm would be: doppler, blood work (HcG levels) and then the less invasive: palpating, and fundal height. (I'm sure there's more, but that's all I can think of)
If we are having twins, I would still stick with my home birth plan, but might be more concerned with their placement. I wouldn't mind a breech or anything, I would just want to try for optimal positioning. Also, you should check out the Homebirth forum and search for 'twins'-
There are a lot of successful home birth stories!

OMG, that would be me too! There have been some suspicions that this may be a twin pregnancy and it will be my 4th and 5th child! We will still plan a homebirth as long as things are going as well as they should be. Lucky for me, I know a mom who homebirthed her twins!
