The crime she committed was discusting and horrible and just morally wrong.<br><br>
But now what?<br><br>
He is an adult, they have two children together, and it seems this is what they BOTH want. So what do you do?

Only in america do we "celebrate" pedophilia. She did her time, he is an adult now, but damn...the whole thing is f'd up. Disgusting.<br>
Oh yeah, and if it was my son who she had sexually abused and taken advantage of, my DH and I agree one of us would be in prison right now because she would be dead.

Even more twisted, we are full of double-standards. Can you imagine the outrage if the pedophile was a male and the helpless little girl just came of age? Hoy sh*t, we wouldn't be celebrating that, would we?

That's a pretty place--- they must be doing okay for themselves <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/eyesroll.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="roll">

I agree it was wrong at the time it happened. I can't imagine being a 30year old involved with a 12 year old. (I just recently interned in a 6th grade classroom- they are just kids.)<br><br>
But he is an adult now-he is the father of those kids and if they want to get married, that is up to them. If the situation were reversed, and this were a girl, I would feel the same way.<br><br>
If the child doesn't feel victimized- at the time or even after all these years- was/is the child a victim? He said it was his choice. (Rhetorical question on my part- will probably get many answers.)

Not quite. This is a quote from the article:<br><br>
"Letourneau and Fualaau gave a series of interviews to "Entertainment Tonight" and its sister TV show, "The Insider," which had exclusive rights to the nuptials. <b>Show officials said they did not pay for the wedding.</b>"

I cannot respect the woman and not just for abusing her position of authority or for violating a child. She had her own children and she betrayed and abandoned them- not to mention her husband.<br><br>
That said- what would people who feel their marriage is wrong do? Do you think it should have been stopped?

I did the <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/eyesroll.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="roll"> because how they are "doing well for themselves" is selling their story (which, IMO, should be illegal since the only reason it is a story is because of a CRIME).

I just hope they are both in major therapy! Because the both of them must have some serious issues, whether they realize it or not.

I took it to mean the SHOW was not paying for their wedding, I could be wrong.<br><br>
nother thought to throw out there... She committed adultery once with a husband, who is to say she won't find another young boy to "fall" for?<br><br>
This is totally the reverse of what we usually see men doing. 60+ guy dates and then marries 20something girl, dumps her when she hits 40 for some 18 yr old.

Why couldn't we have had teachers like that at my school? <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/irked.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="irked">:

I don't approve of what she did,if she had really loved him she would have waited until he was 18 to have sex with him.I don't have a problem with their age difference,I am 13 yrs older than my husband but I would have never bothered with him if he had been a minor.I just hope for the children's sake that they are happy together, the little girls are really adorable and he seems to be a good father to them, she is off the wall though.

There were teachers like that at your school; they just left you alone.

Well, <i>HE</i> could NOT sue since he was a minor; his mother sued and then sued on his behalf.

I was actually happy they got married.<br><br>
They have two kids who will benefit from the parents being married and it somehow makes me feel like they really did love eachother.<br><br>
Now.....if my 12 year old son was having sex with his 30 something teacher....welll...I would be pretty upset.<br><br>
I agree, she could have helped him keep it in his pants.<br><br><br>
What is even crazier, she was a mom...she should have had more empathy for his mother.

I have been following this story since is broke, and I am from Seattle and live about five minutes from Woodinville, so yeah I heard everything. I made sure to stay home while I knew that wedding was going on.<br>
Sure, what Mary Kay did was wrong, but I don't believe she is guilty of rape. The definition of rape is an unwanted sex act, or unwanted penetration of a sexual manner. Villie obviously loved her, still loves her, and although she was in the wrong, I don't believe he was victimized. He even stated that he never felt victimized, and that he loved Mary Kay. I think that this is a unique situation of love happening at a very wrong time in two lives. Granted, I am not advocating what they are doing, but I just think that despite all the controversy, they are getting what they wanted. Vicitms to not marry their rapists. Villie spent much time away from her while she was in prison, and reportedly did go though counseling. He loves her. So her marries her.<br>
Mary Kay should have waited until Villie was 18. There is no excuse for having sex with a 12 year old boy, of course. That was very disturbing. But I don't think Mary Kay is/was a pedophile. If she were truly a pedophile, Villie would not be the only victim. Pedophiles rarely have only one victim, often look at child pornography, will often molest their own children. Mary Kay has no other victims, had no child pornography, and did not molest her own children. Obviously she had some sort of mental thing going on, but it was not pedophilia.<br>
It does bother me to think that if the situation were reversed, and it was a girl that was having sex with her male teacher, the punishment would be more severe a marriage probably wouldn't be taking place. But I think that all is well that ends well, and this is a marriage, and I think it's best for all parties involved. When you are working on cases like these, it is important to examine the factors involved with each aspect the situation. Obviously this is not a crime of rape or unwanted sex act. The factors point to Mary Kay is not guilty of rape. She is not a child molester. She had sex with a minor, and that is a crime. Villie was not victimized. He had sex with his teacher. These factors are true only for this situation. Mary Kay was punished, and she is now free. They are in love. They married. Yes it is controversial, and many may not agree, but that's that.
