x-posted from N&CE, since we obviously have lots of kids here who are massive Thomas freaks.

It seems to be mostly red engines and buildings.

We had the same thought. I think I posted before you by just a few minutes!

My kids are not Thomas nuts. We have a few older engines, mostly from around 2002-2004.

GMTA.
I just saw this thread in Childhood years.

My son, is, unfortunately, a Thomas nut.
We only have one possibly affected engine/part, though, thank goodness.

Thank you. Huge Thomas nut in this household! We have a number of those I believe. I will have to get out my lead testing kit right away.
Thank you, Finch, for posting this. We have a lot of those trains pictured.

Straighthaircurly- where did you get your lead testing kit & how much do they cost? Are they reusable?

Ditto that question. We also have a number of these parts, including the stop sign which has clear teeth marks in it.
: Uch, I feel ill. (And angry! Here I am trying to eschew plastic toys for wooden, and now my kids have been mouthing lead
: .)

My son is a huge Thomas nut! Fortunately this isn't the Thomas set we have. We have the set with the blue plastic track. We have a generic train set that goes with his train table too. That has a wood track.
Thank you!

I think we've got two cars that may be affected. I laughed when I saw this because my Mom left a panicked message on my machine this morning and told me throw the entire thing away!! Ack!
we have 10 of these pieces
:

what concerns me is my ds is rough on them, so the train cars are all chipped. these toxic paint chips have been floating around my house for a year --gotta go clean now!

but how can I be sure it's lead free? My firstborn son has Asperger's and never mouthed toys much but my 4th HFA/PDD-NOS/no one will commit to a diagnosis still puts everything in his mouth at 4 years old. He prefers his Brio "Polar Express" battery operated engine (plastic?) anyway when he occasionally plays with the trains handed down from his older brother (the girls were never as interested as my firstborn was). We only have a few trains. I feel like a seed of doubt has been planted. I guess it's the red paint that contains lead but not other colors? Aaahh!

Sincerely,
Debra, homeschooling mo of 4 ages 10 (AS), 9, 7, and 4 (Apraxia, Dysarthria, HFA?)

*dianamerrell my children's trains are chipped badly too!

We bought it at our local small hardware store. We've only used it a couple times so far and it has been awhile (we used it when my son was younger and putting everything in his mouth). I'll post more when I find it.

Thank you for posting!I have to go through ds's trains, but I think we have a couple of those.
: Ds still puts things in his mouth, and of course my almost 3yo dn does too.For the price of Thomas trains you'd think they would be tested better.
