I am 26 weeks and still fell pretty good in my regular underware. Really, what is maternity panties for? My tummy is bigger, not my bum. Maybe its for women who are more advanced in their pregnancy?

I ask because they seem to be so expensive (except for the JC Penny granny panty type :LOL) and wonder whats the big deal...

Well, I can only speak for myself here. I did fine in my own panties up until the last trimester when my bum got nice and wide I picked up some comfy cheepies at Target that were bikini....not the enormous ones that go all the way over the belly. I just couldn't bring myself to buy them. I know others who swear by em.... I was comfy in what I found.

I had some in my second pregnancy and hated them. In the end with Joe I got some knit cotton low cut bikinis from Victoria's Secret that worked really well.

I got some last time, but hated how they covered my whole belly. This time I've been fine with my old undies (which were a little on the big side pre-pregnancy).

I see. Well I am dont like over belly panties. Most of mine are VC or Jockey underbelly ones so I guess thats why they still work. I will just get sizes up as my bum grows!

I have never worn maternity underwear. I have french bikini cut Hanes. Unfortuantely, my hips have spread and now even the next size up (as it sags in the butt) cuts into my lower abdomen and hips. It HURTS. I am glad I only have a few more weeks to go.

I bought some Hanes her Way cotton bikini cut undies 2 sizes bigger then I normally wear (for belly comfort ) and have been wearing those with plenty of room to grow.

Never owned maternity undies specifically, but I did buy larger Hanes and some stretchy nylon underwear (which I hate and did not wear my 3rd preg) that are just like the materity material, but sold at wal-mart as regular undies.
Keep your money, just wear what you've got until it leaves marks, then move up as size.
I will worn you though, I had to move up to the Just My Size to go around my tummy (i did like them high w/ preg #1) and the leg holes are HUGE!!!

I owned them and wore them for about 2 seconds before taking them off and never wearing them again. Out of all things to waste money on they were the worst. I wore bikini cut ones until they wore out and then went to full undies in whatever size I happened to be in at that point.

With ds I wore my regular undies. With dd I started in my regular undies, but they started to feel uncomfy. I even bought bigger undies and still felt uncomfy. My SIL had some maternity undies in with the clothes she let me borrow. I wore the maternity undies and felt more comfy. Go figure, but it worked for me, but I was just generally uncomfortable being pregnant with dd, maybe because she was breech. Maybe that is why I found the maternity undies more comfortable, but then again i'm a weird egg. Guess it just depends. I would'nt say they are a nessesity, per sey. Just use them as a last resort if nothing else works.

During my first pregnancy, I wore my regular underwear -- french bikini and even thongs.

However, with this pregnancy, I've been wearing maternity underwear since the 3rd month. My bottom got much bigger much faster with this pregnancy -- also, very late in my first pregnancy I developed a blood clot in my leg and in my pelvic area, and had a lot of pain in the region where my pelvis meets my left leg. Now I'm paranoid about anything being tight there and potentially hurting, so I'm only wearing things that are not at all snug. (The development of the blood clot had nothing to do with my panties, of course!)

I never needed them. I wear big old grannie panties anyway :LOL , and they all stretched well. I did find that a few of them had waistbands that were a little too tight and bothersome.

I did fine with my regular bikini underwear until the last 6 weeks or so. Then I found that my bikinis were cutting into the lower part of my belly a bit uncomfortably. I bought some cheap maternity underwear that was a very stretchy microfiber and I found it very comfortable--wish I'd switched sooner.

ETA: Just remembered--I did buy a couple pairs of "maternity boxer briefs" like the ones on this page. They were great under dresses in the summer.

I just bought a bigger size of Fruit of the Loom or Hanes Her Way panties. I think some of my friends just stick to panties like bikinis that fit under the belly. The only issue with that is if you end up with a c/s you'll want different underwear because your stitches will be at this same line.

I wouldn't waste the money. The only maternity panties I ever found that I like were motherhood but that was 2 years ago. They changed them now a bit ad they suck. The crotch is too narrow to even wear a panty liner. The shape is way funky and they are 13 dollars for 3 or 4 pair. Go for hanes her way. That's what I have on right now and they are so comfy.
