Max was born on Friday, June 13th at 7:13 p.m. at 10 pounds, 6 ounces, 21 inches long.

Max was due on June 19th and we were planning a VBAC. Because of the VBAC my doctor (and I) were really only comfortable with natural induction methods. In addition, I have GD and a history of large babies (my daughter was over 11 pounds) so neither one of us were terribly comfortable going beyond 40 weeks. We were already guessing this one to be at about 10 pounds. At my June 12th appointment I asked my doctor to check me and we found that I had made absolutely no progress and my cervix was in no way favorable to induction at that point.

We went ahead and scheduled a C-section for Monday the 16th. However, if things had started to become more favorable for induction on Monday morning we would go that route. I was sent home with a list of things to do and try to get things favorable for Monday morning.

On Friday afternoon at about 3:00 I received a call from my doctor. Due to the record flooding in town the hospital where I was due to deliver was closing their OR's to most procedures on Monday and Tuesday (no worry of flooding there, primarily staffing problems). She asked if I wanted to have the C-section that evening, or if I would like to hold off and have a different doctor attend my birth.

I had done a lot of thinking about the c-section vs. VBAC at that point in time. My daughter was a c-section because of positioning, not size and I really think that my son was in the exact same position. I really had a feeling that things would not be favorable in the next week, so I felt pretty comfortable with a c-section this time. I decided to go ahead with the c-section that evening. So I went in at 5 p.m.

I walked into the OR at 7 p.m. and my son was born my 7:13. I was nursing Max in the recovery room at 7:35 p.m. It was very fast and very fun. I was fortunate to have almost the same exact staff in the OR as I had with my daughter and we all had a lot of fun. I'm a little disappointed that I didn't get my VBAC, but not as much as I thought I'd be. My recovery has been very quick and very easy.

Max is a very quiet, happy baby and we've been having a lot of fun.
