Strong crampy contractions thru the night & they were very painful but irregular. And vomiting up a storm...very dehydrated most of the night but keeping fluids down now! The contractions subsided so it makes me wonder if it was something I ate? Anyway, has that ever happened where labor begins, dies off, and returns later in the day? No bloody show or mucous plug. I have an appt to get my cervix checked in a couple hours.

Unfortunately, yes, that is possible : . To know if you are really in labor that will continue, look for contractions which are progressively longer, stronger, and closer together. Sounds like you are gearing up, though!! And those other contractions aren't a waste at all -- they help your cervix to move forward and efface. Stay strong mama! Rest as much as you can right now, eat carbs, and stay hydrated! Good luck! Can't wait to hear about your birth . . . . .

It sounds like it could be a tummy thing. Labor can definitely start and stop. However, puking and dehydration can really bring on contractions even when not in labor. I would make sure to rest plenty, try to keep down some rehydration liquids (like pedialyte) and take it easy. If you are in labor it will pick back up and you will know it. Hang in there and feel better.
With ds #3 I took a walk with DH and my other two children and that evening I hurt so bad!! I was lying in bed and felt an intense pressure in my pelvic area and pain that wrapped all around my waist. I told myself that if I could fall asleep then it wasn't labor. I also knew I had an appt the next morning. I did finally fall asleep and felt better the next morning, well low and behold when I was checked that morning at my appt. I was 5cm!!!! So it wasn't for nothing! I ended up having an u/s that showed low amniotic fluid so I was induced the next morning.
