maybe a stupid question

we have used cloth for all 5 months of DS and we loooove them

however

1. i notice he pulls up in to a crawling position ONLY when doing naked baby time on his tum -- never in a diaper

2. i nocie he does NOT pull his legs up under him when sleeping on his tum -- sticking his butt up -- like all other babies i have seen (in trash dipers).

I have no expereince with coth diapers before useing them myself, none of my freinds or realtives did (well mom did on me, but i don't remember).

3. he loves to chew his toes, but again, only when sans diaper -- doesn't pull them up or grab them when diapers.

DH and I note that the CD is more bluky than the trash ones; and makes his butt a rounder fatter thing.

could CD be effecting his movement?

anyone else ever seen this effect?

or is this just my little boys being himself?

If Charlie is in an aplix diaper, he'll take it off if he wants to crawl around!
It could be, yeah. But not a bad thing really. And maybe your son doesn't want his bum in the air!
If charlie is in a really trim diaper or no diaper, he moves around more than if he is in a fat diaper. But it doesn't bother us. Maybe I should put him in a REALLY fat diaper so he stays still!
Your son will develop just fine. Don't worry.

I suppose its *possible* that CD's can affect baby's movement, but not in a negative way I think, just in a different way. Remember that just a generation ago ALL babies were cloth diapered and we all turned out ok. So, if a CD'd baby doesn't do certain things when he/she has a CD on, I wholeheartedly believe that it has absolutely no ill effects. Both of my children are CD'd are extremely mobile and have no physical mobility problems (in fact sometimes I wish they would sit down). So, if you are ever concerned about physical development because of cloth diapering, please don't worry. I think its the bulk that causes them to not do certain things when the diaper is there, but they all develop all of the necessary physical milestones anyway.
HTH.

I don't think it's a stupid question. I think cd's are one reason my ds "discovered" his toes only a few weeks ago. When I am changing his diaper he grabs them, and just started putting them in his mouth. Early on I thought the bulkiness would restrict his movement, but other than the toes issue, it hasn't held him back at all. He is 8 months old and you couldn't pay him to stay in one spot! He is constantly standing and is cruising now.

Oh, he sleeps with his little bum in the air. I think your ds just must be comfortable in whatever position he sleeps in.

Enjoy your little guy and don't worry!
My "little" guy (now 20 mos) has never slept with his bum in the air - no matter if he was in CDs or sposies. So maybe your little one just doesn't like to sleep like that. Don't worry, CDs won't mess up his development!
I am not WORRIED........he is developing great, i think we'll be crawling too soon and i am sure once he is, we'll wish for these quiet days

I noticed that he behaves differntly in CD and naked......
and wondered if others noticed it too.

thanks for the imput

Mine behave differently without a diaper...I just think they like being naked.
Its like they love the freedom or something.

Heehee. (Sorry, I'm really missing the smilies.)

Just about all of us said "don't worry" didn't we? I think it's just something we say!

Yeah, it really is different when they don't just stay where you put them!

You are going to be LOVING that bulky cloth butt when he starts pulling up and walking. Sara NEVER cried when she plopped on her butt learning to walk, unless she was naked. She always had a nice cushy diaper to pad the fall. She walked at 10 1/2 months too so she was right on target. And she a;ways puts her toes in my mouth while nursing no matter how trim or bulky her butt is.

Meg

Thanks

I do love my cloth diapers,

He is our first and i am always wondering -- not so much is he ok, or normal -- but hummmmmm is this what others expereince or not. and so on.

Thanks

That's another good reason to CD!~ I hadn't thought of that, but you're right...no one ever cried here while learning to walk (except during naked time).

I was worried with my babe's development too, but he ended up crawling and walking fairly early. It might restrict him being able to pull his toes up or whatnot, but it might just be the restriction that ANY diaper could do,KWIM?
My sister started with CDs with her first when he was a bit older. He seriously objected to aplix diapers, especially aplix fitteds with an aplix cover. I think he had a point, cloth diapers can get bulky across the belly especially if you under pants.

I think pull-on wool, aka soakers, and snap fitteds are the most flexible and probably the most comfortable to wear. Maybe pinned flats and prefolds. I am sure there are more. Anyway, my point is that is doesn't hurt to take a look at your system to make sure you aren't overly restricting the baby especially across the belly.

I think that even babies that wear "trash diapers" act differently during naked time.
