Today was the third day in a row I woke up without my now customary gush of dark red blood. I thought I'd be dealing with that for the rest of this pregnancy after an inconclusive u/s last week. But one of the CNM's I spoke with threw out the idea that maybe as the night goes on and my bladder fills it puts pressure on my cervix and makes it bleed. I already knew I had a very sensitive cervix, and I had been sleeping through the night. Now I try to make myself wake up and use the bathroom in the middle of the night, and I think it's actually working! It's still bizarre, but if that fixes the problem, then I'm all for it. Just thought I'd share.

it makes sense to me. I swear my cervix bleeds if I sneeze too hard, and it definitely does after sex. All of that is an issue of capillaries.

Oh, I'm so glad that someone came up with a plausible explanation and that it seems to be accurate! That is really good news and I'm glad you haven't had to deal with it for the past few days. I hope it lasts!

I'm glad you found what seems like a solution. Bleeding while pg is so stressful and no fun! Bummer on the having to get up in the middle of the night, tho. But we'll all be doing that soon anyway, good practice!

AFter nearly a full week with no bleeding, there was blood when I got up the first time to pee last night, after 2 hours of sleep. Same pattern as it had been, it didn't seem to make a difference that I was getting up. I am so unbelievably frustrated. I can do no right in order to fix this. To date, I've pretty much eliminated the following as potential causes for it:

sex

activity level

heavy lifting

dehydration

placenta previa

hematomas

tears

and possibly bladder pressure

I'm at a loss. Anyone else have any ideas?

At this point, I'd say anything is possible. But would it cause this much bleeding? I mean, we're talking a small gush here. I just don't know.

See if this link works. I read it in "The Natural Pregnancy" book. She does say that bleeding can be "profuse."

Thanks for the link, very interesting. And she mentions friable cervix. I'd never heard the term for it, but I'm pretty sure that's what I have. Off to do more googling!

I just took and over-the-counter UTI test (sort of like a pregnancy test, only not nearly as fun) It was negative. So there's another thing I can cross off the list.

It does sound like you have something going on w/ your cervix. I have a sensitive cervix and spot fairly often due to vag exams, sex, etc, but interstingly, NOT as much during my pregnancy, until the very end. At the end of my pregnancy, I see blood pretty much every time we have sex. It used to freak me out, but w/ this being my 4th, it's old hat, and I doubt I'll pay any attention when it starts happening this time.

It's weird that you've been bleeding this whole time, though, and even if you're not having sex. Very weird. But if everything else is ok, why worry? That's my motto. How's your iron? I'd worry about that if I were having a lot of bleeding.

Midwife checked my iron at my last appointment and it was fine. I'm really not that worried, but I am totally and thoroughly frustrated. It's a pain to deal with, and I don't want to deal with it. Bleeding while pregnant is nothing new to me, but this is the most I've ever had, and I can't pinpoint what is causing, whereas I could in other pregnancies. I'm just pressing on for now.

Sounds like cervical vessels to me too And Im pretty sure thats what my bleed was from last night. Have you tried positional changes at night?

I fall asleep on one side or the other, and quite often wake up on my back. I have no idea when I roll over, but yes, I sleep in all sorts of positions.
I just started bleeding again. This is new. It usually doesn't happen unless I'm asleep. A new level of annoyance. And I have done NOTHING, repeat NOTHING today.
