I know Samsoleil usually starts our weekly thread, but I figured I would volunteer

I had a great run today, perfect temp, I ran 14 min/walk 1/ran 21 min for a total of 3 miles. I run a 12 min mile on average!

Although going up my last big hill (like half a mile) one of my feet got numb. As soon as I got to the top of the hill it started getting better, and by the time my run was over, it was gone. I felt like I was getting enough oxygen, Does anyone know what that is all about?

Anyway, my goal this week in addition to the running, is to get back into doing s/u's and p/u's every day.

Happy running mamas!

Thanks for getting the thread started.

My plan:
Run today, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. 2 of 'em 60 minutes, 2 of 'em shorter and faster.

Reality:
There's a really nasty set of thunderstorms hanging out about 80 miles west of here, moving at 16 mph. Argh. This ain't lookin' good for a 6 pm run considering it's now 3 pm. Hopefully I'll get out after putting DD to bed. Eeek. Just read the Weather Service alert. 1 inch hailstones. No Thank You.

Are your shoes too tight?

Well, the weather cooperated. I went 5.9 miles in 65 minutes pushing the jogging stroller. After my run I went to vote in the middle school gym. There was a scale. I couldn't resist. Granted, this is after a long run in the heat, and I hadn't drunk much water (only my 16 oz bottle), but.....

I weigh what I did when I graduated from high school!!!!

I'm stunned.

(That's 12 pounds less than I was at my annual checkup in November.)

I was thining I might start the thread this morning, but was too busy wasting time reading other threads about things that didn't even remotely pertain to my life. sigh.

Goals: run monday, wednesday, friday, saturday. at least 2 miles each day but not terribly hard. still adjusting to warmness here.

I'm going to the doctor tomorrow for this persistent thirst business. I drank about 4 L of water at work (730-130), came home and was totally dry. This is ridiculous. If it is diabetes, I'm nipping it in the bud. If it is nutrition related, I'm seeing a dietician. I can't continue. Yesterday I drank about the same amount of water, headed out on my run and had to walk most of the way because I was dizzy and lightheaded. I had had a full lunch at a bday party about 1.5 hrs before.

I already missed my goal of running today, but I did manage to get dd into the trailer for a 8 mile bike ride. Just didn't feel like running, too hot and thirsty. On the bike I can take loads of water and drink it easily.

Geo: WTG! I can't remember what I weighed in high school.Oh yeah, I do now, more than I do now -- more muscle mass then you see.

Missbliss: I was thinking shoes. Maybe they are laced too tightly? (that's the cheap fix). Great job on the run.

that's great Geo! congrats! running rocks for sooo many reasons...

missbliss...ITA with tight shoes. my chiro says lace them really loose, especially over the top of your foot, and it's worked for me. I used to get numb feet and bad shin splints and have had neither since I started lacing my shoes looser.

My goals for the week:
5 miles today, Wed, and Thurs (Thurs with stroller and kid)
10-12 miles Sat.

For this summer, I'm going to just see how the weather is. If it's as hot as it was last weekend, I'll run an hour and a half or so instead on Saturday. I know I keep talking about it, but it's just unbelievable! You'd think I just moved here or something!

Happy running everyone and have a good week.
Peace.
My goals for this week are to run 4 miles Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Maybe a shorter run Saturday. I ran 3 miles on Sunday and walked 2 yesterday with the double jogger. I will also do my crunches on the days i run.

I agree with the suggestion of your shoes being too tight. Try that first. WHen I was pregnant with my last I had a problem with my siatic nerve that would cause some numbness in my toes, but hopefully it's just the shoes.

Way to go Geofizz. The running has really helped me to tone my butt, legs and arms. I weigh almost 30 pounds less than when I graduated high school and am in much better shape now.

have a great week.

What's your blood pressure?
I hope you get this figured out.

Yeah, same here. Way more flab now. I'm not doing wind sprints 2 hours a day and then riding my bike home 10 miles from soccer practice. It's getting there, though. I'm not bottomed out yet. I can still see it going down.

Somehow I sqeezed out 45 pushups last night. DH just kept counting. Now I think he's scared to try for fear he can't do nearly that many.

patti WTG on loosing the weight so far.

I just went to the doc. I'm a grad student and have decent insurance, but for everything you might see a family doctor for I have to go to student health. Aside: And instead of a family doctor for ob/gyn you have a choice of the 12 ob/gyn docs in town. I have a very good ob.

Would you believe I had to ask what they got my BP at? I was
: why don't they just tell you that stuff as a matter of record? I guess they aren't used to people nursing either because when I said I was still nursing the doctor was like "What? you're still nursing?" But she ordered the routine tests blood draw, urine, etc. I am not anemic, but the CBC work up takes some time. I check back in a week (doc is on vacation).

mamabeth, I bet you are more acclimated to the heat than you think. If you came here you'd be wearing a fleece jacket -- I'm in shorts and a t shirt bc it is supposed to be 65 today!

Ahhh, student health services. I always got (1) take ibruprophen 4 times a day and come back in two weeks and (2) a pamphlet on abusive relationships.

I always have to ask for the numbers on everything, even for my awsome midwife clinic. I guess they aren't used to people having an understanding of bp, hemocrit numbers, etc.

kerc--I hope they get this figured out. I had some "episodes" like that but nothing bad enough to go to a doc, and I think it was actually allergies hampering my breathing when I was running this spring.

I always had to ask for my bp at my mw when I was pregnant! And it was even a concern in my pg! weird.

I'm sure I'm acclimated. 65 does sound chilly, and very nice weather to run in in June.

Peace.

What???? Why would they give that one out? Are you bruised a lot?

I always got "could you be pregnant?" until I actually WAS pregnant, knew I was pregnant and was there to just be referred so i was certain my doc would be paid for. Then they did a pg test, told me it was + and made an appointment with ob for me, umm, 6 weeks later. No mention of things like did I have morning sickness, don't drink alcohol, avoid x,y, z, get enough folic acid, etc. I was seriously PO'ed at finally being pregnant and then getting treated like crap. What if I was a dimwit and was out partying every night. The baby could have been seriously harmed.

It was TMJ. A friend who frequented student health a lot more after she got hit by a car figured out that they had the "cause of the month." Once it was abusive relationships, then it was wearing a helmet (which she thought was silly since she'd given them her helmet to see after her accident), another time it was about wearing sunscreen.

You know, Kristin, you may want to post your symptoms in Health and Healing. Some of those people are sharp!
Hello all!

I have a f*&*& virus on my home computer. Everytime I get on, I just want to break it! But I missed you all! My race on Sunday was good. I did 101/2ks, 73mins, and dh did 101/2 ks, in 54 mins, it was fun. Dh was pretty hyped, and he signed us up for a triathlon in August. Running/rollerblading/biking! Should be interesting.
Monday, rollerblading 5ks, today, rollerblading 7ks, running 5ks, not sure how the rest of the wk will go, cause I'm back to work tomorrow. I'll catch up on the thread tomorrow.

Happy trails!!!

Ugh! Just got back from a 4.6 mile run. Very humid. I'm still sweating and I've been done for 15 minutes and have been in the pool too.

Great job samsoleil!

Patti
Great job Samsoleil! I'm still curious, how did the relay part work?

Thanks everyone for the tight shoe suggestion. I have a tendency to lace my shoes super tight so my feet don't move around and blister, but I will definitely work on keeping that tendency in check.

Kerc, I hate it when health care providers don't give you numbers, then are impatient when you ask for them, and act like you won't understand them anyway. (can you tell this is one of my pet peeves?) This is why I love my midwife. She is always happy to chat with me about my numbers

No run for me today. My plan for this week is much like Geo's, Mon, Wed, Fri, and Sat. Hopefully the weather will cooperate tomorrow.

Happy running!

Hey all--

First, great job on your race SS. And, kerc, I also hope you get things figured out soon. I'll be sending good energy.

So. . .yesterday I was out on my run enjoying a beautiful evening in my neighborhood and the next thing I know a car passed me and the passenger threw a plastic car part at my face. It was a hunk of plastic about the size of a Discman. It hit me on the right side of my face on my eye area. The car behind (how stupid can you be?!) the thrower's car saw the whole thing. He came back to see if I was okay. I said I was fine to make it home. He said he would go get the plate number and call the police. He did!

When I got home, running 2.5 more miles in the process (where is the muscle flexing smilie when you need it?), carrying the thing they threw at me which I had found on the road, I called the police. The police came and took my report, photographed my face and gave me some instruction about what would happen next. I will be pressing charges on the people who did it. I am so grateful that someone was willing to help. I would feel so helpless and angry if they didn't catch who did it.

I spent last night in the emergency room until 1:00a.m. UGH! Ultimately, I am fine. My face is bruised and I have quite the perpetual head/earache, but I'll be fine in a few days.

The thing that makes me the mosy angry is the thought of having my boys with me and have something like this happen. My neighborhood is so awesome and safe. There were no less than four people out walking their dogs and enjoying the evening while this happened.

I guarantee the people who did this will regret doing this like they have never regretted before.
I am so thankful I was alone.

I get so angry at the hateful things that people can do. This is so minor compared to some things. Even so, these people will truly be wishing they had reconsidered such stupidity. I have plenty of energy to carry on until they learn their lesson.

With that said, I will be out running again as soon as I shake this headache. I refuse to be afraid of anything, including cowardly idiots who throw things from a moving car! (Again, I am needing the muscle flexing smilie here!)

Thanks for reading. Keep running, mamas! I am!

e&e'smama that is just insane!!! I can't believe that. I'm glad that for the most part you are okay...I'm also really glad there was someone there to both see if you were okay and get the buttheads license plates!

Wow!

Have you noticed I only ever join this thread on wednesdays? I have no idea why that is.

So it was a long run on sunday (~8miles), rest monday, tuesday I was really tired so I just did 37 minutes (I was wanting to do a 60 min run). Today I was still tired so I went 35 min.

I have a question, I remember going through this not too long ago, do you think the fatigue can be related to ones period? I'm going to start tracking it more closely to see if there's a correlation.

Nice job everyone!!
e&e'smama

that must have been so scary.

gotta run cause I need to work, but briefly Yes I think fatigue when running can be related to your period. i can't really elaborate other than to offer my own "it happens to me too" stories.
See less See more
Holy Cow E&Esmama! How scary. I'm so glad to hear you're ok. It sounds like you live in a good community minus one dufus. Some similar happened to my dad when he was riding his bike a few years ago. Thankfully the (metal
) car part only hit his bike, not him. It left a nasty gash on the frame. I will never understand what goes through someones head to think to do something like that.

BBM ~ I can blame *anything* on having my period. Go for it. It's the period's fault, and only chocolate will fix it.

No running yesterday. We rode our bikes for ice cream last night. It's about 2 miles away and downhill. We figure I burned off three bites of the ice cream on the way home and Phil burn off 2 (I had Karen on the back of my bike). My plan is to go running today as long as there are no tornados.

E&E's Mama! So glad you got the licence plate! A few yrs ago, I was rollerblading..and someone threw an egg at my leg, and I got a huge welt. It hurt like a bitch, but it just scared me, something I was not expecting. I hear your anger!!!

Dh waited for me at the turnaround point in the relay, we both did 101/2ks.

I did 120 crunches last night! Only 7 p/u's cause ds kept getting in the way! :LOL
