Do you mean us? Parents, grandparents?

Because I had the measles, so did dh, and all three of our kids did.

None of us were vaccinated for measles because I don't think the vaccine was out then.

Our grandson was vaccinated for measles and he got the measles about 10 days after the vaccine.

Any other questions? LOL

I had the measles when I was 15 (1991). I had the MMR when I was one but they only did one dose then & of course it wore off or didn't work.

It really isn't that bad, kind of like having chicken pox. I do remember throwing up though quite a bit but after a few days felt better, that could have been from dehydration though. You do have to sit in a darkened room though because they can cover your eyes & your eyes can become sensitive. I just watched TV in my parents bedroom with the blind down for that week.

Uuugh. Sounds yucky. I'm actually asking for my mom who is worried about us not vaxing. She wanted to know of the non-vaxd kids- if there have been any outbreaks. So I guess I'm looking to see how many in my kids generation. They're little ones. My DD has Fifths Disease and it got my mom worried about other childhood ilnesses that we don't vaccinate against.

The 'measles leads to blindness' issue of old is actually due to a lack of vitamin A. A person with the measles should be taking lots of cod liver oil for the vitamin A.

Interestingly, I think rubella is supposed to be milder than Fifth's. I believe the main reason (the only reason?) we vax for rubella is because of CRS. But Fifth's can also be dangerous to a pg woman. Wonder why the vax for rubella but not Fifth's?

I got Fifth's as an adult and boy was it nasty! Bad body aches for weeks. I can definitely see the value of getting childhood diseases in childhood.

Hmm. I didn't know that. My friend got fifths along with herkids and was pretty miserable! My parents don't remember me having it as a child so hopefully I won't get it now! My daughter is presently jumping on the bed. I think she's feeling better!!

Yes, I had measles when I was young, and I had a horrible complication,
I was jumping on the bed and fell and cut my head right above my eye and had to go the dr to get stitches.

I had the measles too and had a really high fever - close to 107 that recked my thermostat. I get hot really easily......hot flashes for kids! LOL

I also had a couple other things that there are vaccines for, not even including chicken pox which they didn't have a shot for then. My parents choose to only vaccinate against polio.

I remember being really sick each time (like a couple weeks of bed rest and care)....but I pulled through, so it is debatable how much I should have gotten the vaccinations.

Interesting question. :)
I've had measles. I remember not feeling great for a few days. I have also had mumps and rubella which were pretty much nothing. I haven't had chicken pox dispite being exposed countless time.

I never got the measles (that I know of). If the vax was recommended after 1983, I got it, but I really have no idea. I don't know of anyone in my family who had the measles and I don't remember anybody I knew getting it when I was a kid. DS didn't have the MMR - wonder if I could get him exposed if I wanted to. It's hard enough finding chicken pox!

My mom had it twice, both diagnosed by her Dr. Once in the States, and once in the UK. They told her to not get the vaccine, because it might cause her to get it a third time, better to just rely on her own immunity.

She didn't seem to upset to have had it twice, not like it was a really bad thing, more of an annoyance, iykwim.

Stitches for jumping on the bed! Hah!!

Too funny!

Sorry, I'm not offering measles!

I wouldn't mind some CP if those are going around! I;m just trying to figure out how often unvaccinated kids or vaxd- actually get this disease.

Thank you all for your replies. I think it will make my Mom feel better!!

I was partially vax'd for measels, but got them at 1 and 1/2 anyway. I was immune at the age of 14, because my younger sister (fully vax'd) got them that year and I didn't. It was a mystery as to why I didn't, until I checked in the baby book. (My Mom died when I was 11, so we really didn't know. My Dad doesn't remember stuff like this!)

My brother and sister both had measels and i had the mumps. My mom said it wasn't really a big deal. She sent us to measels parties. Fever, light sensitivity, spots, lasted a week - that's was the upshot.
