I am curious about something and I figured I would post b/c you all seem so knowledgeable!! I read that the AAP says that if an immediate family member has a neurological disease that the child should not be vaccinated. Well, I have a neuro disease. So I was wondering if this would count as a medical waiver or is it more for a child sick with cancer that cant be vaxed? My twin daughters are 13 months old, never had a single vax, and I am wondering if I could get a medical waiver instead of a religious waiver (whole other issue there) Any ideas?

It's not a contraindication if a family member has a neurological condition. It's only a true contraindication if the child has a progressive neurological disorder and it only contraindicates the DTaP vaccine.

I would not even bother entertaining the thought of a medical exemption. You'll never get one for all vaccines, not to mention the ones that haven't been mandated yet.

Where do you live?

It's true. Medical exemptions are worthless. Go religious.

I am not a religious person (although spirited ) but we did a 'religious' exemption. It's akin to a personal belief.

Thanks! I heard medical waivers were worthless but I kind of feel wrong about getting a religious waiver b/c I am not religious and dh isnt of a non-vax religion. I am really worried about what to say or how to write a religious waiver. I have had people tell me to just write down the law that applies to my state but I am not sure how to even start. How did you guys do it? I live in Indiana if anyone has done for this state...

Let me read it. Many don't require anything except something you copy from a site.

Neither dh or I is religious. I will ALWAYS use religious exemptions for my kids. It's simply the safest way.

With medical it is only for one child, one vax, usually one year.
