We are happy to introduce Autumn Breeze as MDC's Moderator of the Month for June 2010!

She currently moderates The Childhood Years, Talk Amongst Ourselves

She has been a member since 2003 and joined the mod team in 2006!

How did you first find Mothering? MDC? I'm pretty sure I had done a Google search for doulas, as I was a pretty new doula when I joined. I was excited to find LOTS of moms who were doulas, midwives, childbirth educators. I lurked mostly until I became pregnant with my daughter in 2005, when I became addicted to my DDC, and started posting and reading a lot more often.

What’s your favorite MDC forum? My favorite fun forum is Talk Amongst Ourselves, but I lurk all over! I love reading in the MHM, Crafting, Digging in the Earth, Gentle Discipline, I'm Pregnant, Birth Stories, Birth Pros....etc

What keeps you coming back to MDC? Because I'm always looking for new ideas. I enjoy having a comfortable place with like minded mothers, and fathers, raising their children similarly to the way we are raising our children. And because I can't resist reading the great birth stories!

Can you tell us a little bit about your family? My husband and I met in 1997 (!!) when I was going into high school, and he had just joined the Marines. Thankfully he wasn't leaving until late October, so we had a little time to get to know each other. Well, enough time to know we wanted to know more. Unfortunatly we didn't get to talk much at all over the first year he was in the Marines, but we were able to reconnect my sophomore year. We became best friends. In October of 1999 we started dating, and we were married in January of 2001. The rest, as they say is history. Our beautiful son made his debut shortly after 9/11. We were worried our new, perfect family was going to be torn apart. We were very blessed that dh was not shipped out with so many other local Marines. We decided it was a good time to make our exit, and when his active duty was up we hit the road. In October of 2003 he was finally "free" and Honorably Discharged. We had been back home for a while, and I'd become a doula, we bought a house, and got a surprise pregnancy followed by a heartbreaking miscarriage. About 4 months later we found out our daughter was coming, and her unplanned unassisted birth was another highlight of my life. As planned dh caught our daughter, and I can still see how proud he is of that moment when we talk about it. The kids are growing fast, they're 8 and a half and 4 and a half. They're bright, brilliant and two of my favorite people on Earth.

Is there something that you do now that you probably never would have done if it weren’t for MDC? Oh so many things for one, I know that MDC has helped me to be a more gentle parent. I think MDC was instrumental in my love for wearing my daughter, how long she and I nursed, cloth diapering......I just feel like I am a more well rounded parent because of what I have been exposed to at MDC. I have been able to pick and chose what fits for our family.

Tell us something most don’t know about you. This has stumped me for days!!! I don't know!!!

What are you most proud of? Definitely my children. From their births to everything they can do and will some day do. I'm proud of them with every fiber of my being.

Are you a night owl or an early-bird-gets-the-worm? Somewhere in between. I am most productive in the afternoon and evening hours.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? What about now? All KINDS of things! A vet, an equestrian, an OB, a military lawyer, a fighter pilot, a mother. Now? Well, now I am a mother. So I want to be a great mom! And I want to be a great wife! My next goal for my life is to be a childbirth educator. I finally found the right opportunity for me, and will be training in October!

Do you consider yourself introverted or extroverted? ambivert. I am a Libra so I tend to prefer balance in all aspects of my life.

Would you say you are neat or messy? I would say that I am more often messy, but I am spending a lot of time this summer with my trash can/donation bin and my 'to-do' list.

Do you like to cook? What is your ideal meal? I do like to cook. I like meals where I can be creative with flavors, and I really prefer cooking from scratch. I just don't appreciate the clean up.

What's your favorite/go-to cleaning product? Clorox Green works in my spray bottle, along with some old cloth diaper flats

What do you consider your worst vice? You mean other than the internet?? Junk food, curse words, long showers, and LOUD MUSIC.

What’s sitting on your dining room table right now? Bedside table? Ugh. Lots of crap! I haven't completely cleaned up from our homeschooling, and we're already into our summer schooling. So my table has a few books, and note books at one end. Vitamin Water that won't fit in the fridge yet, napkins, the kids Sigg bottles, color pencils. And I'm sure crumbs, 'eat over your plate' means very little to my kids at snack time.

What's the last book you've read? Deja Dead, and maybe by the time I'm finished with these questions, Deadly Decisions, both by Kathy Reichs

Favorite all-time movie? Eek!! I can NEVER answer this question. Either I don't have an 'all time favorite' yet, or I have way too many!! And no matter how long I spend on this I will think of others.... Ever After, Fried Green Tomatos, A League of Their Own, Monty Python movies, Star Wars (except Episode 1), the Harry Potter movies (for their movie quality)

Favorite book? Again, difficult. I guess anything I read more than once would qualify here....Baby Catcher, Lovely Bones, Harry Potter 1-7 (many times), Twilight Saga, Red Tent. I should also mention my enormous, and always growing Wish List on Amazon, especially since I have once again found time to read!

Do you have other sites you enjoy participating/reading at? Usually here and Facebook get my social attention on the web. I have a large blog list that I read.

Do you have a favorite saying or personal motto? When things are not going my way, I try to remember and tell myself that "It could be worse, and you can still handle this" Otherwise, I just love my life And if you're on the phone with me and my kids are being, well, their ages, you might catch me saying 'I love my kids, I love my kids, I love my kids' or something similar. It may come out sounding sarcastic, but it does wonders for my rising blood pressure LOL

What is your quest? Well, it may have been meant jokingly but I'll bite Right now I feel that my quest is to help educate the women in my community about their birth choices. I have lived here for 6 years and don't really hear a lot of positive birth stories, and women who feel empowered by the births they have had in my town. Some accept this, others I feel if they knew they had other choices they would jump for them. I look forward to getting out there and teaching. I'm trying not to wish away the time until my training, and then the time until my first class. I'm very excited about this opportunity I have!!

I hear that, our homeschool boxes haven't been touched, and the pile on my table has grown, rather than reducing in size.

And thank you! I hope I can make a difference. I feel confident that in time I will have some pretty full classes
