I am hoping and prepping and praying that this time around I won't have the breastfeeding issues I did with my son (low supply, he nursed until he was 4 anyways with supplementation)...

But on the chance that I may need to supplement again I'm freaked out about the melamine in formula found here in the USA and how the FDA has turned around from saying that no amount of melamine is safe to saying that the amounts in the formulas found is ok.

Not quite sure where in the heck to post this question, so I figured this forum might be the best?

There are recipes here for making your own.

I've never had to supplement, but if I did this is what I would use. My mother had to do a goat's milk version with me back in the early 80's as I could not tolerate commercial formula.

I am totally disgusted by the FDA but not sure I am surprised. Have to wonder how many daily "small amounts" it will take to build up in the baby's system before they get ill?

I would make my own as well, there are tons of recipes online. I personally would use one that does not use gelatin and liver but that is b/c as of now Ds is vegan, but I am open to him being lacto-ovo if need be.

I also heard good things about this company and their formula http://www.vitacost.com/Natures-One-...Iron-Fortified

They leave out the plastic scoop so the plastic doesn't leech into the powder, which I think is a good idea.

ETA: here is the link showing they tested melamine-free
