I have a new baby. She is 2 weeks old. Birth mom just left my house. She will be coming over a few times a week to learn how to care for the baby. The goal is that she will return to birth mom when everyone is satisfied she can care for her baby. The father is also MR but does not live with mom. Last night's visit was quite an experience. one handed typing.... she is high functioning metally retarded. Last night, I taught her to bathe Kait. Today, I taught her to pump (effectively). She nursed Kaitlyn
- although Kait has terrible suck problems... I also taught her how to hold a baby, change a baby... Can you even imagine not knowing these things- or not having the instincts to know? I will say, she was right on cue when Kait got fussy, she started rocking and saying shhhh sshhhh.
However, when bathing her, she let go and turned away for a second to get the camera. I had to call her on this and tell her the importance of never letting go of the baby in the tub. Kait looks just like her mom (Carol.)

I really love this. I could totally do this again.

For you and what you are doing for this family. And for teaching me something new. I have NEVER thought about what happens to the babies of MR moms, who want to parent but don't have the skills. I think of myself as aware, but I honestly know nothing.
: Thank God for people like you who can educate people like me.

Maybe someday (when I don't have 2 toddlers) we can do something like this too.

Oh wow that's awesome! I'm so glad that you are doing this for her. I think it's important that mothers with special needs get a chance to be mothers with the help and support of others. How wonderful for you. I hope this is a great experience for you.
