I know that omega-3 fatty acids are important to our overall health and immune function. I just wanted to know if mercury is a concern with a fish oil supplement?<br><br>

I had a similar question and rrr suggested Carlson norwegian cod liver oil, lemon flavor. It's free of mercury and other nasty stuff like lead etc. And it tastes GREAT - no fishy <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/grossedout.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="gross">!<br><br>
I just tried some for the first time today. I just got back from the Natural Products Expo in DC and they had a rep there who let me have a sample. He said that his family uses it as a bread dip for an after dinner snack. They warm the oil add fresh basil and a bit of garlic. Sounded wonderful to me!<br><br>

Dr. Mercola highly recommends the stuff. Even my 2 year old likes it and has been taking it for months (when I remember, unfortunately).

I'd be concerned about the concentration of pesticides and other toxins that occurs in the fatty tissues of fish and other animals. Fish are especially problematic, they tend to absorb toxins out of the water like sponges. Also, livers are a concentrated source of toxins anyhow since they act as the body's filter.<br><br>
Personally, I'd use a flax or hemp oil supplement instead (I take hemp oil when I remember, mixed in with salad dressing usually.)

Thanks for the replies! We try to toss flax seed into our food whenver we can, but I know we should be getting more. I look more into the info you've all given. Thank you!
