Hello all. I am very much wanting to begin my studies to be a midwife. I am currently a homeschooling mom to 4 so it is going to be a bit before I can take on apprenticeship and such. I am looking for a program to begin my book studies that has some guidance and structure to it but that does not require me to be doing an apprenticeship at the same time and allows me to do it in my time frame. Mercy in Action so far is top on my list because it is self paced, you pay as you go and it has a huge connection to work in other countries which is my biggest interest. I would love to go through the study program then perhaps spend some time in the Philippines as an intern with them and then apprentice here and get the NARM requirements. I just am not seeing a whole lot of info out there about people having done this program so I am hesitant. The other program I am looking at is AAMI. I like that they are "trust birth" as that is where I come from however I am concerned about the cost and the fact I can't really see what books and exactly what I would be studying just- a basic overview. I'm also concerned about all the negative things I hear floating around about organizational requirements, high pressure tactics etc...Can anyone offer their advice? Thanks so very much!
