Anyone have any idea of how to treat this, what causes it, etc? The internet searches don't turn much up that helps.

Here's the scoop -- last Thursday near midnight 5-year-old DD woke up vomiting with extreme abdominal pain. She was unable to stand up straight and near hysterics with pain. When I asked her where her tummy hurt she pointed to her lower right quadrant. Having had some medical training a LONG time ago, I remembered the appendicitis trick of "press and release" -- if it hurts more when you release then when you press down, it is likely appendicitis. Well, it hurt more on the release. So we rushed her in to the ER. They gave her a CAT scan -- good news it was not appendicitis, bad news, it is mesenteric adenitis. They told me that means basically she has enlarged lymph nodes throughout her mesentary (abdominal) area and it could be caused by a few different things and we'll have to follow up with a pediatric gastroenterologist.

They gave her some Zofran to stop the vomiting which they hoped would also ease the pain. The next morning I called her pediatrician for a referral to a GI doc and the pediatric GI can't get her in until May 1! ARGH! She is still in pain today, 4 days later, still vomiting, and has lost weight because she has no appetite. I put in another call to our pediatrician begging him to pull some strings to get her seen sooner, but nothing so far.

Does anyone know of anything I can do to ease the pain? Anything that could be causing it? Online research says it could be colitis, Crohn's disease, Celiac disease, etc, etc. Basically any digestive problem.

I hate seeing my baby girl in so much pain. Luckily she can sleep, so between holding her and reading to her and napping she is getting through it, but any help that anyone can suggest would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Hello There,

I know I am writing some 13 years later, but I am seeking any advice I can get on the exact same case as you went through. My son (6 years old) has been going through the same thing as your girl (now turning adult :) ) He has had mesenteric adenitis pain on and off for about 2 years, always getting very significant when accompanied by other infections. Doctors are seeking the cause but can't find anything. We have a history of IBD in our family, which I hope is not his case. Can you please let me know how your little girl turned out? Has it been resolved? I really hope to get a reply from you :)

thank you

Hi. I am a 24 y/o female who has had mesenteric adenitis on and off for 6 years (since august 2016). The first time was the worst— it lasted 6 months. It was terrible. I lost nearly 100 lbs in those 6 months. Seriously thought I was gonna die. The second time wasn’t until at least one year later (either late 2017 or early 2018). It started out really bad; really intense pains, but after receiving some morphine in the ER, things seemed to get better and symptoms only lasted a few days before resolving. It has been 4 years since that last flare up and I’m currently having another flare up, I think due to a new medication I’ve had to start. It’s been agony for the past 4 days and I’m just trying to see if any other remedies have been found since my last flare up. Best of luck to all.
