I'll x-post this, but figured asking here might work since it's probably state specific.

To those who get foodstamps: I got a letter approving us for foodstamps finally (for February and March, and then the next year...lol, wonder how I get my february benefots now). But all I got was a letter. Do I need to do something to get the actual card? Should I just wait?

Sigh...lost most of our income in February and I reall need these. I've only got a few more weeks before I'm due. I feel like I'm being horrible to my baby by not eating enough fresh fruits and veggies, but we just do't hav ethe money. I really need this card to come like yesterday.

Hey, not in your state but wanted to answer you. Feb. benefits are retro-active. You will get them this year. Look on your letter to see if they list you worker's name. Call them. If no name, call the main office number and tell them your ss#. They can pull the info that way. tell them you got the letter but still no card. If this is your first time getting foodstamos you might have to go into the office and pick it up. if not it comes in the mail and you call to activate it. hth.

angie

also wanted to add, your case is active for the whole year. You have to be recertified in feb '07.

When did you get the letter? I got my card a few days later. Then a pin number, if I recall correctly, it was several months ago. But yeah, the first month I had them, I had double because it was a month retroactive. So, you go from starving to feasting. I hope you get your card soon, mama. Also, the last digit of your case number determines the date your card is refilled. Mine is a 9 so I get mine on the 9th. So, if it's a 2, it's the 2nd, etc. I don't think that affects your retroactive money, though. I got that and then the card was refilled a short time later.

Good Luck

I'm in Michigan and when we were on foodstamps the card came in the mail a few days after the letter, so wait and give it a few days, if nothing comes through the mail call your worker!

Yay! I'm so glad it seems to usually come through on its own. Because (this is gonna be a shock) my "worker" is an itch with a b who I hate and really don't want to call (and wait two days and receive no response.
And leave a message threatening to call her supervisor. And call her supervisor. And receive a snippy message back about her very good reason for not calling back. And call her back again. And wait another day for her to return my call. Last time I wanted to confirm she had received some papers I'd dropped off it took 9 days to do so. Her excuse was that she doesn't read letters, she just files them. *sigh*)

I keep waiting to be switched to someone else bc when I first went in she kept telling me she was just an intake worker and didn't have any answers for my more detailed questions, but now she's still listed as my worker on the letter.

So anyone know if it's like policy that they are required to refuse to address me by my title/last name while I am required to address them by their title/first name? Call me petty, but I find it disrespectful to be addressed by my first name by someone who introduces herself herself as "Ms. X." I've since referred to myself as Mrs. H in all my messages to her and she got quite snippy about it. Apparently she files things by first name?

no idea on the name issue, our worker doeswn't deal w/ me but she's addressed me as "Mrs. S" when I've answered the phone, she asks for DH by his given name though.

abt the pin, we didn't get one in the mail, dh called and set one. you'll get feb and mar fs right away. then on the day of the month your fs hit, you'll get a deposit from april on. i don't know how they determine deposit dates, ours is the 4th.

even though you're certified for a year, you'll have to resend the info every 6 mos for a semi-annual review. failure to comply is grounds for losing your fs.
