My cycles have been pretty much regular since they returned when dd was 16 months old. I have had 3 periods since then, cycles lasting between 30-35 days. Anyway, my last Af started on Sept. 1 and then Saturday (Sept 20) I started getting brown spotting. Very light-- has never filled a pad (had the same pad on all day yesterday and it was not much at all). It has alternated between dark brownish-red to pink to just plain brown. I am not sure what is going on here. We have used condoms every time we Bd'd so it is not likely that I am pregnant. I have been pretty stressed lately but this stress has been going on for several months now (moving, etc.). Also, yesterday I had this faint sort of ache on the side of my abdomen, *maybe* it was my ovary, I can't tell. That lasted pretty much all day, but has stopped now. The spotting has almost stopped completely but it has been sort of off and on-- so it might pick back up. I have had very veyr slight cramping off and on also, but nothing major at all. I don't have medical insurance right now, and won't probably for a long time. Any ideas as to what the heck is going on here? TIA

Anybody????? The spotting has basically stopped. I wore a pad all day yesterday and only a very small amount was on it. I am having some clear discharge. And I'm feeling really bitchy (progesterone maybe?). I'm not sure what's going on. :

You're using condoms, so I guess you're not using a hormonal form of contraception? If you are in fact taking hormones, I'd get those checked out, as they'd be the most likely culprit. Another possibility is ovulation, though usually if there's ANY spotting in connection with it, there are only a few drops of blood (color can range from brown (old) to red). A third potential culprit - and one that's statistically not likely, unless you're older and/or have a family history - is cancer (most likely endometrial or ovarian).

In any event, if it happens one more time, I'd get the situation checked by a gynecologist.

No, I'm not taking any form of hormonal birth control. But now you've got me worried about cancer! I have no insurance right now and *no* money. We are seriously poor right now. I won't have insurance for a few years.

I don't know what to do. did you have sex preceeding the spotting? i have heard this can be from very minor (no cause to worry) cervical bleeding from your cervix getting bumped by your partner's penis.

i often spot very lightly after sex. I spot more when we use a condom then without. i'm somewhat allergic to latex (and the artificial lubes which we only use when we use a condom always feel icky to me too). i wonder if the condom makes my cervix more sensitive and prone to bleeding when bumped. i know my vagina gets somewhat inflamed from the condom and i wouldn't be surprised if a few capillaries break through there too. also, if you did not get wet enough before intercourse you could have minor internal abrasions which could lead to spotting.

you might get a more qualified answer if you try posting on some forum where there is a qualified doctor who offers advice. (i've seen them, i just don't know of any off hand).

of course, if the spotting comes back heavier or if you are worried you really should ask a professional.

No, in fact we hadn't done "it" in a few days when it started. I am having very mild cramps, uterine cramps... especially noticable when I am busy doing things around.. No spotting though, just a little bit of normal clear discharge. HMMMMMM......

:

Go to a clinic that operates on a sliding scale, like Planned Parenthood (if there's one near you), if you spot again, and get it checked out. Do get it checked. If you must, use a public clinic (but they won't likely be very interested in checking it out thoroughly, even if you say, "I'm worried it might be cancer, especially given that I'm not on any hormones and (for example) my aunt had uterine cancer" (magic words that'll make a doc take it much more seriously in most cases)).
