Well, my fundus is at 23 cm (I think it's cm, lol) and she said I'm doing well, my iron count from my labs (I think back at the beginning of my pregnancy) were fantastic, I've gained a pound since May 17 (which is good, I'm hovering at 199 right now. I was 192 when I joined Weight Watchers on January 9, got down to roughly 182 by the time I had my positive pregnancy test on February 3. If I get blue about my weight, I just say, hey! I'm only up 7 lbs!
)

I was a little annoyed because she asked me how my nutrition was doing, and I said pretty good, but that dh went to get chips the other night to go with some burgers we were making, and he decided to get one of those 20 bag fun packs, which royally annoyed me because if there's junk in the house, I want to eat it. The midwife launched into a lecture on how bad they were for me, and I'm just sitting there like this
: because I know they're bad for me, that's exactly what I was saying! She told me that when she's not hungry, but wants a snack, she has some carrot and celery sticks. I almost told her that if I want some cheetos, carrot sticks aren't going to cut it, but kept quiet, just nodded. We usually have a ton of fruit in the house (buy fresh stuff at Costco on Sunday and it's gone by Wednesday at the latest.) I know she's just doing her job, but sheesh!

Oy. I hate when they lecture like that. You already know what's nutritious for you obviously, or you would have said, "Hey, I had a big bag of potato chips and they were SO HEALTHY FOR ME." lol. She probably just likes patting herself on the back for those carrots and celery sticks.

Good for you for just nodding though. I probably would have nodded and replied, "What's it like being related to a rabbit?"

I'm not a very tolerant pg woman.

Glad the rest of your appt went well!!

Yeah, midwives are rough that way. It's almost enough to make me appreciate the doctor and his "everything looks great, see you next month" lack of ever mentioning diet... nah, it isn't.

Mine told me to cut back on sugar and carbs but... but... I'm pregnant! I'm supposed to get to eat frosties and cookies and shakes!

That stinks. I just want to say that not ALL midwives are lecturey about eating. Mine ask me if I have concerns and ask how I'm feeling about my diet, but they wouldn't give me advice unless I asked for it.

A few chips aren't going to kill you or hurt your baby. It sounds like you, overall, have a great diet. Enjoy a little indulgence. Of course, I am not a midwife, I just hate being lectured by anyone!

Wow, guess I'm lucky, mine never even asks. She asks if I'm eating good, and that's it.

Though I knew I loved my ped when he admitted (not in front of his nurse who is his wife) that he used to share chocolate cookies with one of his kids as a very young toddler under mom's nose. I was VERY upset that dh had given mine a cookie, and he fessed up. Made me really like him more for his being human

I say enjoy your cheetos! lol

Oh, she also told me that the next 4 weeks are "very important nutritionally, baby will be growing a LOT, so watch your diet!" Uhhh, I wasn't aware I was ON a diet, lol. I told her I was going to Hawaii next week and going to indulge in sushi, she said, "California rolls are good." I like, uhhh, no, I'm craving tuna rolls! Then she starts in about worry about the bacteria... uhh, I've gotten sick off of sushi before, got an antibiotic, everything went back to normal (this was after a week of trying to treat it naturally, then 3 days of clear liquid diet, so it's not like we jumped right to antibiotics.) I'm not afraid of a little diarrhea (hey, maybe it'll help with this gas and constipation?

Ohhhhhh I know how pissed off you felt b/c at my appt. on Tuesday (the one where I found out I gained 8 lbs from the previous month) my nurse tells me "You should eat more vegetables, you know". How TF does she know if I eat vegetables?? (I do, I love them). How TF does she know WHAT I eat? Grrrrrrr.
I didn't say anything, but if looks could kill, I'm sure she is in the ground already.

I hate that! It's one thing if you ASK me about my diet, or what I might have thought caused that weight gain, but to sit there and tell me, when you're not the one seeing what's on my plate every day,
Sometimes baby just goes through a growth spurt! I'm not saying that baby gained 8 lbs in a month, but when I was pregnant with Emily I stalled with my weight gain for awhile, and then BAM! gained like 4 lbs in 2 weeks. My OB wasn't concerned because he said my body was just playing catch up for the month before.

Aw, how annoying. I'm the same -- if there's junk in the house, I want to eat it.

Glad to hear everything is looking good! Yes, it's cms.

Mine too, but at least she didn't comment on my 7 lb this month weight gain
My OB might have.

My DH brings treats home too, he can leave them in the cupboard forever but he KNOWS if it's there, I eat it! Grrr. I know he's just trying to be nice but...

Oooh, I'm so glad for my MW! She absolutely encourages good eating, but she also knows I'm no lover of veggies and that I really DO try hard to stay away from sugars and things. In fact, I had *nothing* with processed sugars in my 3rd trimester in my last pregnancy. I did GREAT!! And baby was born smaller than my first at 7lb2oz.

That's my goal this time, too, though I was doing better earlier on than I am now. Eep. Like I just had a yummy lemonade from Chick-fil-A. But it's HOT outside and I was THIRSTY!! Water? Oh, yeah, I like water too... but it's a different craving.

I am never going to have a "perfect" diet (which just means "what you eat" - doesn't have to have bad connotations!), but I do try to eat better when I'm pg. I just wish I had some decent way of having leafy greens at home. I never eat them at home, and the places I've loved to eat them have closed! One will reopen soon, then I'll be gettin' me some sizzling beef with spinach!

Anyhow, I do have to be able to report good eating habits as much as possible, and while I know I'm "in trouble" if I'm not doing what I could be doing, I don't ever get reprimanded or yelled at! She's great!

Best Start. I had to switch my insurance from Prime to Standard to go to them because Balboa wasn't releasing ANYONE. I did see 2 midwives at the clinic on Miramar and didn't really care for them.

Hey, Japanese women eat raw fish all the time while pregnant! So I'm not stopping either. Doesn't it seem like a waste to live in Japan and not eat sushi?! I think the midwives and Dr's at the naval hospital here see sooo many pregnant local spouses who have said, "huh?!" when told not to eat raw fish, that they have given up suggesting it to their patients!

I know what you mean about the snacks in the house, though. I have a HUGE sweet tooth. For mother's day this year my dh goes out and buys the biggest box of Godiva chocolate I have ever seen. It was like, A-are you TRYING to make me gain weight, and B-do you know how many cloth diapers I could have bought for what you spent on this??? Darn them and their being considerate! Seriously, it's in my fridge and I am still trying to finish it off, which says a lot considering how much I loooove chocolate!

I'm glad to see that other dhs are being so "considerate" with regards to cravings. Dh's like, "Oh, you want some ice cream? I'll go get it." Although the other night I asked him to pick me up ice cream and a Milky way (the Milky way was for the next day) and he gave me this look and said, "Ice cream AND a Milky way?"
: Don't be accomodating for 4 months and then turn all diet conscious on me, go get my darn candy!
He ended up forgetting the Milky Way
: I did my penance though, the next day I walked 1/3 of a mile with dd in the umbrella stroller up this steep hill to the grocery store and picked one up, then walked home and ate it. I figured after walking 2/3 of a mile in the heat, up a hill, I deserved it

Oh ew. Sorry she wasted your time and energy with that lecture!!

I feel lucky for my midwife, too. She actually asks me for tips for high protein snacks because she knows how much I am pumping in every day.
In fact, the only lecture I have ever gotten from her was to get off my a** and exercise a little. And that wasn't even much of a lecture, just telling me I would feel better. Which, of course, I would.

So far no lectures from my doctors either, which is nice. Though the nurse did sit down with me at the first appointment and try to tell me all the things I would be experiencing in each month of my pregnancy. While my dd was running around the exam room. Uh....
