I'll be joining you here!

I'm enrolling in AAMI for the coursework for now and will do an apprenticeship in the next state we move to. Its really sad I won't apprentice in Seattle because there are awesome midwives and one of the most homebirth friendly climates in the country here. What states do you think will be hard to find a good midwife to apprentice with?

You will be able to find many fine midwives in other areas, even states you wouldnt expect due to legal climate. Once you get to know how the birth climate is other places, you will not likely be dissapointed in having to move elsewhere. The seattle/western WA birth climate is unique though, I have heard that.

I just got home from the Homebirth Australia conference (my compromise for not being able to get to the Trust Birth conference). it was a loooong drive - 1000mi each way, but totally worth it because I got to not only see Anne Frye speak, I got to meet her, and we hung out a bit and had dinner

MamaRabbit (or anyone else who owns this book ) who wrote your edition of MNN? I am getting so confused because the edition I had from ILL was blue but all of the ones I can find new are red, and not written by Sally Olds anymore. How different would it be? Worth it or not?

I'm so confused. I don't mind buying it used but if the new red edition is what I'm going to want then I will splurge for that.

Mine is the blue one by Olds. It is a bit older but still very helpful... a newer one, not sure how much better it would be.

I need to get Folks Do Get Born, but Im having a hard time finding it. I found it on Amazon for $200. I usually dont mind buying all my books but that price is pretty crazy, especially for a book I will probably only read once. Is there somewhere I can get it cheaper? I live in a super small town and even the "bigger" library that is an hour away Im sure wont have it. But I am goign to check.
Thanks

Hello all, I just wanted to finally introduce myself. My name is Vanessa and I live in Central Minnesota with my husband and two children.

I have self studied midwifery for about 3 years now. I am a hair shy of completing a Childbirth Educators Course with Childbirth International. I am also a Breastfeeding Counselor in training. And my newest aswesomeness is I have found a preceptor with whom I can apprentice under! I am extremely excited about this and cannot wait to begin (start in a week.) Also, I have decided to take the WomanCraft Midwifery distance course, I spoke with Director/teacher on the phone and instantly knew that this was the course for me! I also plan on attending her workshop in September in Massachusets (spelling?) I am super excited for this! And finally, I will be traveling to Portland Oregon in June (soon!) for a midwifery and lactation conference. Whew, okay that is it, for now.

Thanks for reading and I am excited to be here.

Majik, maybe you could sell it to Hram when you're done with it

Then I could buy it from her :p

Welcome Vanessa! CBI was a fabulous intro for me to birthwork and a good foundation for midwifery studies. And yay for finding a midwifery program that clicks with you.

Thanks for the reassurance! We'll see where we end up. I'll be asking around on here when I know for certain (and even when we're not certain.) I'll probably use potential preceptors and birth climate in our criteria for choosing our next place to live.

There is a midwife near me who takes on an apprentice every 2-3 years but requires them to move out of state after their apprenticeship is over... she has trained quite a few midwives who are practicing in other states now.

We have a need for a midwife about 2 hours southwest of me so I am hoping to take on an apprentice who will be willing to move to that area at the end of her apprenticeship. I will not qualify to be a NARM preceptor until 2013 though.

yeah, when I'm done with FDGB I'll let you all know

so... as if last weekend with Anne Frye wasn't awesome enough, I heard (last minute) about another workshop - a weekend with Gloria Lemay on fear in childbirth.
omgomgomgomg it was AMAZING! I learned so much, and of course, Gloria is hillarious. It was about 23 women, mostly birth workers of some sort, on the bush property of a local amazing midwife.
And Gloria was so funny, at some point, she mentioned Lisa Barrett, and I told her about when I met Lisa, and Gloria suddenly goes, "oh, *you're* majikfaerie, I'm so glad to meet you. and I can't wait to tell Lisa that I got to have more fun with you than she did"

So now I've done 4000km on my car in the past week and a half, and been away a week and then a long weekend, so I'm not going anywhere for a while.

I know, aren't Gloria and Lisa great! I LOOOOOVED hearing them both speak at the Trust Birth Conference, but I loved even more just sitting down and talking with them on my concerns. I felt as an equal.

I had 3 births scheduled in May. May 2nd due date gave birth May 20th. May 10th due date gave birth May 6th. May 15th due date gave birth May 23rd. So so so happy that there were no conflicts in the scheduling LOL

The first two births were really difficult. First had a partially separated placenta and was a hospital transfer. Second was a doula birth that ended in C/S.

And yesterday's birth was awesome!!! They flew me up for their birth and I was so afraid I was going to miss it. But I got there 5 hours before the birth BIG baby with nuchal hand and no tear... she sat there with the head out for four minutes as this baby slid out one millimeter at a time! I was gone exactly 30 hours and that included flight there and back.

And now I'm back home and leaving for a visit to the USA in just 12 days!!!

majikfaerie, I thought you meant Gloria was saying literally "oh so your majikfaerie" and then I realized that she probably said "oh so your (your real name here)" and was much disappointed
