I'm living in the UK, and here, all normal pregnancies are overseen by midwives. We only see dr.'s if there is a problem.
Anyway...the other night i was in the ER because I'd had an electric shock....no biggie, but being first time parents, DH thought it best to get me a once over check (and since medical care here is free.....why not??) anyway, they called one of the midwives down to listen to the heartbeat and as she looked at my stomoch she said "it's a good size" and I thought.....how does she know?? she can just look at my stomoch and see the baby??? Most people have said "gosh you're not showing that much yet!!" but here the midwife was able to look at me and "see" if that makes sense.

Just thought i'd share!

I'm not implying OBGYN's couldn't do the same...i guess i was just ticked at this older woman's instant summary of my baby.

I loved my mid-wife (well it was a midwife team) but they made me see a doctor at 34 weeks due to hight BP
(I was on medicaid) so I couldn't fight them.. I delivered at the only hospital in my area that let midwives deliver! I was very happy about that but ended up delivering at 37 weeks and was still in "doctor care" at that point so I didn't get my midwife.. But all went awesome it was a short and great labor and my little boy was heathy as can be! and my BP went down to normal within days of his birth! So i can't really complain!
