Hi I was on here a while back asking for midwife recommendations in the Auburn and surrounding areas. I got lots of great info from you ladies. We did actually find a midwife team we fell in love with in Citrus Heights. Thing is we recently moved from Auburn to Gold Run and now live quite a bit further from Citrus Heights. In fact at this point Truckee would be closer. I'm really hoping we can find someone just a good but a bit closer. So does anyone know of any midwife teams that do homebirths anywhere from Colfax to Truckee? TIA!

I believe that is Deborah Bartel. She was really great when we interviewed her. We just really connected with the ladies in Citrus Heights WAY more.

viola thanks for the links! They're awesome. We interviewed the lady in Colfax, Dion Rich. I really liked her. In fact in a lot of ways she's tied with the one heart midwives. Only thing is she isn't actually licensed and I'd have to have dual care for the labs.

I used to live in Nevada County, and there are a couple midwives there too... Alison Osborn and Sweet Arrivals Midwifery. There was also a CNM who did homebirths but I heard she has closed her practice. Hope you find someone.

Viola, i didn't see Dion Rich listed in colfax, only a Sheila Anne Shelton. where could i find her number?

vanita lott is the cnm who closed her practice.

alison osborn was the assistant mw at my dd's birth and i *personally* would not recommend her. i hate to say anything negative about mw's, BUT her behavior and attitude were completely unacceptable. pm me if you have any questions.

kaleem and marlene (who i'm assuming were the ones in CH you're talking about) will come to where you are. they were my mw's for my baby that i lost in may and even though i had to drive to them for apointments, we were still planning a hb in foresthill, which is about the same distance from them that you are in gold run.

hmmm, i remember reading about a mw practice in nevada city. i never spoke to those ladies but i've heard some good things about them. sorry i can't remember the names.

hey calmom!

totally forgot you're in foresthill too! we are looking for a house to buy here in foresthill right now. have you been to the new coffee shop yet? really cute and cheap, good coffee too.

the practice in nevada city (but they are actually at san juan ridge) is sweet arrivals midwifery (cindy foxfoot/kathy boyer).

Kathy Boyer/ Cindy Foxfoot Sweet Arrivals were my midwives. I was disappointed with some of their actions during my labor (transferred) and felt let down by their care. That said, someone else's experience with them could be totally different than mine, and they could be the right midwives for someone else.

It was actually me that posted about Dion Rich. I has assumed the one in Colfax was Dion 'til I click the link and saw it was Sheila. Here's Dion's webpage: http://www.alovingway.org/ We interviewed her and LOVED her!!! Honestly it's a total tie between her and Marleen and Kaleem in Citrus Heights. The only negative with Dion is she isn't actually licensed so any prenatal test would have to be ordered by someone else. I personnally had no doubt in her ability and LOVED her bedside manner. She's awesome!

I believe that Shelia works with Deborah from American River Midwifery: http://www.purebirth.com/ because when we interviewed her, she said she works with another midwife in Colfax, named Sheila.

Thanks so much for all the links and suggestions!

Like Scarlet Begonias, I don't want to say anything bad about a midwife but I've just heard too many negative stories about Alison Osborn to feel comfortable using her myself. Both Kathy and Cindy of Sweet Arrivals received their training from Alison and while they all may be wonderful able midwives, I personnally wouldn't feel comfortable and safe using them. And I really think that when selecting a midwife the mother's comfort and trust level is key. So like I said others may have a wonderful experience with them and they may be great, but they're just not for me.

witchypants, shame on you for slandering a wonderful midwife because you have "heard too many bad stories about" her. From EXPERIENCE w/ two of my own kids, I can attest that Alison Osborn and Sweet Arrivals BOTH have amazing midwifery skills. I'd hate for someone to miss out on a fabulous midwife because of what one person has "heard."

borealis: If you truly feel I have 'slandered' a midwife, then I invite you to reread what I wrote. I feel you are reading more into it than what is there. I have reread it myself, and I'm sorry but I fail to see how I have 'slandered'. I have neither said that they are not able bodied midwives nor have I suggested others not use them. What I have said is that for ME trust has been eroded.
Like many women on mothering I have done A LOT of research on the midwives in my area - on here, from people I know in RL, the midwives own websites, etc. I'm sorry if in my personal journey I have come across information that lessened my confidence in a midwife you've had great experiences with, but I honestly don't feel that's any reason to 'shame' me. I'm glad you had good birth experiences - that's all any of us want. However, we don't all look for the same thing in a midwife. What's disconcerting to one may be comforting to another. I for one do not appreciate being shamed for not feeling the same as you do. Especially on the mothering community! I was under the impression that Mothering acknowledged and celebrated the fact that one size fits all care for pregnancy, birth, and parenting doesn't work. I'm not clear why we can't disagree in harmony. While your experiences with Alison and Sweet Arrivals was great for YOU, it is something I've only 'heard' or rather read now too. And I really don't feel your experience makes another women's any less valid. Or vice verse for that matter.
Again I invite you to reread what I wrote. I think you'll find that all I really said is that trust has been damaged for ME as far as those midwives are concerned and trust in my caregiver is EXTREMELY important to ME. I don't feel I could have a fulfilling birth experience if I don't trust my caregiver. Are you honestly suggesting that trust in your midwife isn't important? Whether what I 'heard' is true or not doesn't change the fact that there will always be some doubts for ME and that makes those midwives not a good choice for ME. Again I'm shocked to see this type of reaction on Mothering a place that I thought supported women in following the choices that feel 'right' to them. I'm not suggesting those midwives aren't good, I am saying they aren't good for ME. Once again I'm sorry we could not have different points of view in harmony, without the need for shaming.

i personally discussed my HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE WITH ALISON with witchypants. it's not "hearsay". alison RUINED my birth. (click on link to see my post in healing birth trauma, and you can personally read how she conducted herself at my birth) i can't even enjoy the memory of dd's hb, because of alison's unprofessional, unethical and just plain rude actions and attitudes. i would never work with her again, nor recommend her to ANYONE else.

maybe next time you could read the entire thread, before jumping on someone. if you actually read my previous post, i said i had personal exp with alison and would not recommend her. i'm glad you had a good exp, but you are the first person who i've talked to who has employed alison, and who HAS had a good exp.

in fact, a dear friend just used her for her dd's birth 2 weeks ago, and she did not have a happy exp with alison.

I'm a little further out. Portola CA. Anyone deliver out here? I feel like I've searched high and low. I found one MW in Lake Almanor, that's not to far from me. Jocelyn A. Souter, LM Anyone know anything or heard anything about her?

My last baby was a homebirth. The previous 2 were both hospital births.

Hi sappylady,

I have not had the opportunity to meet Jocelyn yet. I am a California licensed midwife just north of Reno. I attend births in that entire corridor from Chilcoot to Portola.

If you have any questions, please feel free to pm or email me [email protected]

Do you serve the Fallon, NV area, or are you more focused on the western side of Reno?

Hi there. I am Dion Rich and I just discovered this Tribe. Thank you so much for the wonderful things you said about me. I really appreciate it! I also realized my old phone # is still on my old website. My current # is my cell 530-400-6916. I'm currently mostly retired yet I still do births for former clients, family and those who had previous HB's with another MW.

I'd love to know who you are and re-connect.
