I have decided that I will be going to a midwife for all of my ob-gyn care. I have seen a website for a CNM named Patrick Thornton. Anyone heard of him or know anyone who's gone to him?

I live very close to Kennywood and I really don't feel like having to drive a million miles away. He is very close; he's close to Swissvale.

Can anyone recommend someone who they really liked?

Thanks!

I saw Patrick Thornton when he was with a larger practice that included obs and midwives. I liked him a lot and thought hs care was very good. He really listens. I would recommend giving him a visit. I am sure he would be open to having an interested patient visit.

You should also check out the PghMamasNetwork

There is a lot of good advice there. I know someone would have a good recommendation.

Btw, I am in Forest Hills. We are practically neighbors!

I am currently 34 weeks into my pregnancy, and am seeing the midwives at the Midwife Center , and am very happy with the service that they provide.

The reason I chose them, and not midwives such as Thornton (although I hear good things about him), at Magee or where ever, is because I can deliver at the new Birth Center, instead of the hospital. They are in the strip district, around 28th on Penn (not sure if that is too far for you or not).

I'll 2nd mirlee's recommendation of Pittsburgh Mamas for advice.

I like Patrick Thornton a lot. He really listens and thinks about each individual situation. He's always willing to admit when he doesn't know something and do his best to find out.

Mamasarah, I have a 16 mo DD. It would be great to meet you. I live in the city now but we are looking to move soon and will probably end up in the eastern burbs, so we'll probably be even closer to you then (looking for a house in Churchill next week.)

T
If anyone wants to get together, PM me and I will give you my phone number. We are generally around. Though I have to say that I have a rough and tumble near 4 year old boy, but I can try to get him to play nice.

EnviroBecca -Congratulations!

Okay, now for the on topic stuff. The Midwife Center looks wonderull I would definitely check them out.

I love Patrick. His is a very unique practice that it is a wonderful blend of conventional and alternative medicine. He is caring and thorough. I recommend him to all my female friends. I was nervous seeing him the first time as a male midwife but the midwife center at that point had just closed (it has since reopened). I was comfortable immediately and my husband finally relaxed about me seeing a midwife (he has since become a proponent of midwives because of Patrick).

I don't know about Patrick, but I did want to give big
to the Midwife Center. I loved all of the midwives. They were genuinely caring, good listeners, and were able to provide me *tons* of other resources if they couldn't answer a question or help me directly.

Seeing that this thread has been revived, I want to say that Patrick assisted at my birth and did a great job.
We had worried a bit about his being in a solo practice, and sure enough I managed to go into labor on a day when he was very tired from another birth...so he was a little flakey at times, but not dangerously so...and he still was with me from arrival at the hospital until after the birth! He also came back to visit us every day during the 4 we were in the hospital and helped us agitate for maximum contact with our baby during jaundice treatment.
