Hi,
my dd2 has been diagnosed with a light form of asthma. In fact, one year ago, because she had a cough that lasted months and did not go away I took her to see a specialist who was going to remove her vegetations but thankfully, I posted the diagnosis on this very forum and many wise mamas advised me to get dd2 tested for asthma. So I did that, and in fact, it was asthma. A very light form, in fact.
During the winter months, she does great in general, but about every other month the cough starts again and she needs two weeks of treatment with Ventolin (salbutamol) then away it goes for awhile. In summer she does fine.
In general, I do not like giving my kids medications, all we do is omeopathic remedies and herbs and giving her this medication when the problem is just this light cough seems weird to me.
The doctor said however that the issue is not just the cough but also that when she has that strange cough she has micro-awakenings at night and does not rest fully, plus is not able to run for any length of time etc etc. It is a fact that she does a ton better at school on this medication than without and also she sleeps better and - admittedly - can run for longer stretches. She is of the opinion that this is a safe drug with very little side effects. Is that really so? Is prolonged use justified? Should I try to find a good homeopathic doctor to ask for alternatives?

Oops, I see that recently there was a similar thread with more or less the same questions... bumping it then, to see if there are any other mamas who would like to share...
