Any babies hear with mild hearing loss?

When was it discovered? Does your babe have hearing aids? when did you get the hearing aids? Was you baby behind in talking? How long did it take for your babe to catch up?

Did you have Early Intervention serivces? When did they start and what did they do?

She is 8 months old and was just diagnosed Friday. She failed her newborn screenings multiple times, but we were not told that. We were told by the NICU that they had not been completed so we needed to have it redone. If we had known she actually failed, we would have had her ABR done sooner.

We've been able to pick up an appointment right away (due to a cancellation), so next week we go in for a behavioral test and HAE.

She cannot hear higher frequencies (can't remember the cut off) below 30 db.

I know the outlook would have been better if we had known sooner. But I'm really hoping that she isn't really behind.

Needless to say I am devastated by the news.
She didn't act like she had any trouble hearing. She has always been responsive to sounds and speech. She startles even at things that aren't loud.

We will be getting Early Intervention services, but I'm not sure what to expect.

What kind of prognosis is there? Will she need sign language or will she be able to communicate thru speech? Will she require help throught school age, or is her hearing loss such that she won't need that extra assistance? How bad is this?
