Neither of my children are Deaf, but that's my field -- Deaf Ed.

Would you like to share more about your child?

I recommend lots of early intervention for language, learn to sign ASL, get hearing aids, meet and join the Deaf community in your neck of the woods, find and research the Deaf schools and seek out people respectful of Deafness... be proactive!!

The only thing Deaf babies can't do is hear. Getting them access to *language* is your most important job, in my opinion!!

It's going to mean a lot of extra work and learning for you... but your baby can be a happy and accomplished person --

I'm running out to get my kid-- I've alerted a few friends with Deaf babes to your thread. I'll be back later. Hang in there Mama!

Sign and speech are not mutually exclusive, but tools in the communication toolbox!
