I thought I had already had every possible breastfeeding related problem, but now I have a milk blister and a resulting plugged duct. I managed to get a little relief from hot compresses and the shower, but there is still a white bump and I can't seem to drain the plugged duct. Are there any other ways to get rid of it?

You can pop the blister with a sterilized needle. I just had one too and it hurt! Go braless to prevent pressure on the ducts, and nurse on that side first. Try to position your child's chin at the plugged area; the bottom jaw may be able to open the ducts up. I did compresses and then had DP massage mine out- they were really stubborn.

I agree, nurse with dc's chin pointed at the clogged area even if you have to get acrobatic to do it - it really helps a lot.

Once the blister is opened, proper care for the nipple is moist wound care. Kellymom.com has the details.

I slept one night with a thick coating of lansinoh and then opened it with a sterilized needle and nursed and pumped like crazy. It felt sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better once that chunk of crud was gone. It was sorta icky. :

Sounds like what I used to get in the early weeks of nursing. There was white tissue like stuff coming from the cracked part in the nipple. It eventually went away, I don't recall doing anything to help it go away. I didn't ever see an actual blister though.

I've had them before, they do feel better once you've opened them up and nursed like crazy.
