We can all save energy by using http://www.blackle.com/ when we google. It has a black google screen which uses less watts than a white screen. Pretty neat! Especially since I am googling stuff a lot!

Here is all about it:

http://www.blackle.com/about/
http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007..._google_sa.php

Although, now that I do some more reading, it appears that blackle is not affiliated with google. It is just an attempt to get google to change its all white screen to black. So, I am not sure about this!

This only applies to CRT-type displays (traditional monitor or TV). LCDs will use more power to display a black screen than a white screen. All of the light that comes out of an LCD is generated by the backlight. Making a pixel appear as something other than white requires (analogy here) closing a small shutter. To appear as black, three of those small shutters must be closed (one each for red, green, and blue).
