Hi Mama's,
I have read everything I can in the past posts regarding this, but I want some recent replies, please!!!
We found out on Saturday, when we were 10 weeks along that our baby passed at 6 weeks. I have had spotting since Wednesday, and things have picked up today. It's more like a light/medium period, and I have passed two clots - nickle and quarter size. I have had no cramping. Is that inevitable? Please share with me your recent experiences. What can I expect? How long is it okay to bleed? I know two cups of blood loss is too much, but is that over the whole time, or within a certain amount of time??

I can't thank you enough!!

Warmly!

I am so sorry for your loss. I did not m/c naturally so I don't have a whole lot of advice.

I hope someone can share their experience with you.

I had spotting for four days, then woke up with fairly bad cramps and bled a lot w/many clots for about 2 hours. I also passed some tissue during that time. I found passing tissue to be different than passing clots. Then I bled for a few more days and passed some more tissue, then spotted for a few more days.

For me, there was a lot of cramping, but if it hasn't happened by now, my guess is it won't--but everyone is so different. (The expanded version is on the last page of the sticky.) I'm really sorry to hear about your loss.

First, I'm very sorry for your loss. Miscarriage is very trying on the mind and heart. I had a m/c at 5 weeks, and my bleeding was just like an average period. There was a bit of cramping, but nothing too severe.

I am so sorry. At 8 weeks I had some mild cramping and spotting, and then suddenly passed a large piece of tissue, about the size and shape of my hand. Then just light spotting again, we confirmed on u/s that there was no heartbeat but it was still 2 weeks (with intermittent spotting with small clots) before I truly miscarried the baby. That day I woke up and started having contraction at regular intervals, it felt like labor. It lasted about 14 hours, I was bleeding a lot, then I finally took some Vicodin which knocked me out, a few hours later I woke up and passed a large, oblong -shaped tissue that was very different from everything else, I saved it and took it in to the mw. They said that was "it" (I really don't know exactly what they meant, I wish I hadn't been so squimish and looked at it more carefully, asked if there was a fetus or blighted ovum ect. ect..... and I wish I had kept it to bury). Since then it's been like a normal period for 5 days. The mw told me that I may spot for up to a month afterward. The rule they gave me during the heavy bleeding was I should not be using more than 2 heavy/overnight pads an hour for more than 1 consecutive hour.

My most recent miscarriage was similar to yours. We found out at 10 weeks that the baby was only about 5-6 weeks gestation, no heartbeat. I bled off and on for about a week I think, then one night had more cramping that was intermittent and clotting. The clots were about half-dollar sized, and there were a number of them. Then no bleeding, then a little, then none, then more, until I went to the dr. to get a cytotec prescrip.

My midwife told me to just monitor my bleeding. Soaking through more than either 1 or 2 maxi pads in an hour is a danger sign. ( I know that's a big difference- sorry I don't remember more). Actually, for me there was never that big an amount of blood. But, most of it went into the toilet everytime I went.

I've gone through 2 miscarriages at home. The first time I was freaked out by how much blood was in the toilet and went to the hospital. BIG mistake. Really, just especially look at what's on your pad and how much is flowing at a time.

The cytotec caused severe cramping and bleeding, but even then it wasn't really soaking through pads- just a heavy flow with lots of clots coming out in the toilet. (I think that is normal-- the blood "pools" in the vagina, then plops out when you're on the toilet). Sorry so graphic.

I imagine you'll have more cramping, but it may not be too bad, more like a heavy period. Sometimes it takes people many weeks to get through it all, sometimes it happens more succinctly. I'm sorry you have to go through this- it's a terrible reality. But you can make it through.

I just had my first period after this miscarriage and it was only then that the placenta came out. Go figure- but, everyone's body deals with it differently, and it's not always the same every time-- but, I hope you never will experience the pain of loss again.

Hugs, Mama
