Oh, how awful for that poor girl though. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/greensad.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="greensad"><br><br>
But it's wonderful that she can be with her family now.

OMG, poor child. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/greensad.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="greensad"><br><br>
The article doesn't indicate whether she was abused sexually but it's hard to imagine that she wasn't.<br><br>
Thank God she was able to find someone to trust and confide in. At least she has the rest of her life to live freely...

The last sentence says he'll be charged with a variety of sex crimes, so I'm assuming that's the case.<br><br>
That's so sick and sad. That poor girl/woman.<br><br>
I can't believe that no one ever asked any questions. Well, I guess I can, but still. It's heartbreaking.

I wondered the same thing. There is a line at the end of the article that seems to indicate a "yes".<br><br><div style="margin:20px;margin-top:5px;">

Ooops, guess I didn't read that far!<br><br>
I hope she's able to, say, win a civil case against him and get whatever assets he has. Not that that would make much of a dent.

Per Gavin de Becker's point-of-view, that was the perfect job for him. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/angry.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="angry">

gosh - these cases where abducted children are kept right out in the open but are too afraid to ask for help make me sick!! I think we need to make sure that we teach our children to always run!! If she was visiting with neighbors she could have gotten away years ago it seems. My mom always told me to run - even if someone had a gun to me. More chance of living dodging a bullet than being abducted she said. Fortunately this girl lived, but she could have been with her family.... Sooooooooo sad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't blame the girl of course, brain washing can be a powerful thing and I'm sure the creep prob told her he'd hurt her parents or something. Another thing to prepare our children for - run no matter what! Sad that we live in a world where that kind of conversation with our child is prudent.

Thing is, the girl probably didn't say anything to anybody sooner partially because she didn't think anybody would believe her! She was kidnapped, and kept in the same town for 10 years?! Who'd believe that? Even the guy she confided in had to go home and check the website to verify it before calling the cops.

What a heartbreaking story! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/greensad.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="greensad"><br><br>
I'd imagine that after 4 years of being held captive, she was pretty well brainwashed to "behave herself" when she was allowed out. It took her another 6 years to feel safe enough to confide in anybody.<br><br>
I'm glad she's been reunited with her family, but I hesitate to say that she's "home safely" because I'm certain she's been harmed.

Very interesting stuff. Even weirder than I thought it would be.
