I got the following email today. Could you (all) please help me out with her dilemma. I will direct her to this forum. TIA ~Gitti~<br><br><b>I am about to move to Mississippi - in three days!<br>
The problem is with the vax laws there. They do not have a religious or philosophical exemption for school entry.<br>
They have a medical or homeschool exemption only.<br>
(sigh)<br><br>
Granted, it will be several years until my sons are school-age. But.... what am I gonna do if nothing changes by then???<br><br>
Also, I am just at the threshold of the vax issue. My oldest has been fully vaxed thus far (18 months) and my new one only received the hospital-issued shots. (Vit K and Hep B???? I think?)<br>
I didn't give my 2m/o his 2m/o shots bc he had an ear infection at the time that we took him in. I think that was a God-send.<br>
But now that I am apauled by what is in vaxes and what they can do and am not going to have my children subjected to it anymore, I have another delema.... how am I supposed to keep them healthy? Are there things I can do to boost their immune systems other than breastfeeding?<br>
Gosh. I guess ignorance really is (complacent) bliss! Now I am scared no matter what I do!</b>

yeah, it is all screwed up (IMO) in Mississippi re: vax.<br>
frankly I would reconsider moving there, but that is me. And if I was there..well, I guess I might forged the documents...wait, did I say that? excuse me, I didn't mean to say that..

I always think homeschooling is a good option if one parent can be at home. I flatted once with a woman who was homeschooling her child and it's much easier than most people think. She'd spend only an hour or two a day with her daughter, and her d. was doing well above average. A lot of the time her child would simply self learn. Having been trained in teaching I can tell you that a teacher wastes an incredibly large amount of time and energy in simply trying to keep control.. And one on one teaching is heaps faster than teaching over 30 children.<br><br>
As for keeping her children healthy I think naturopathic ideas are excellent. Eating whole foods, pref. organic (free of pesticides), not drinking fluoridated water if possible, going to bed early, avoiding junk food and overly processed food laced with additives and preservatives. There are lots of factors that by themselves are not going to contribute heaps but when taken together can be major in improving health. Just by not vaccinating puts her children at an advantage to other children. Due to my influence a no. of my friends and family have not vaxed their recent babies and it is often remarked by observers, unaware of their vaccination status, how large, healthy, and "with it" these babies are. Comparisons are often made within a new mothers coffee-group...usually these babies are the only unvaxed ones in there....and the vaxed babies are comparatively more sickly, more prone to chronic and acute health problems.<br><br>
It's actually good to have a definition of what is good health. Too often we operate on the idea that health is merely an absence of sickness. ie. a mother might blithely be thinking her baby is all right because he never got measles and whooping cough or rubella, neglecting to factor in that he is having learning difficulties at school, suffers from insomnia, psoriasis and allergies. It would be good for her to read books by famous alternative health experts like Paul Bragg, Bernard Jenson, and Dr. Weston Price. These guys knew more about the reality of what is true health in their little fingers, than what an average doctor knows.

Thanks for a great post, Aquaduct, and congratulations on encouraging parents to forego vaccinations in their children. I try to talk to every pregnant mother I encounter and have met some very intelligent people that way.<br><br>
I hope you don't mind if I ever use your definition of good health. Those are wise words!

West Virginia is in the same situation with the vax exemption issue.<br><br>
I find it interesting and ironic that these two states have some of the worst health statistics for their citizens. I know WV is in the top five for obesity. We have high teen pregnancy rates, high rates of high school drop out. We have the largest elderly population in the nation - indicating that our youth leave the state for better jobs and economic opportunity elsewhere.<br><br>
I know that Mississippi parallels WV in similar ways.<br><br>
Why is it that these two states don't allow philosophical or religious exemption?<br><br>
WV has an organization working on it here. They were able to get a bill defeated that addes some vaxs to the required list and allowed a religious exemption.....but the exemption was not consitiutional, so it was useless. We will see what next year brings in the legislative session.<br><br>
I am very close to the borders of three other states and would move in a heart beat if it became necessary to do so. Our dd is 2, so we have some time on the school issue and we know we will homeschool.....but the issue of exemption for children is very important for us. I see it as a constitutional right of a parent to make health care choices...

But your children are young yet, so there is time.<br><br>
I always come here if I need help. Here or 'health and healing' which deals a lot with prventing the use of allopathic medicine and looking for homeopathic alternatives.<br><br>

You're very welcome to use my definition of good health Gitti, but it isn't really my definition...I got it originally from some books I've read. But it is true it is wise to know what your goal is when you start on a path.<br><br>
Yes, it feels great to have influenced various people against vaccinating their children. But I am not as brave as you, I haven't been approaching pregnant women whom I don't know. How does it go usually when you do that? How do you do that? You're starting to give me ideas.
