I am sitting down to a HUGE end of a watermelon!

It was so important to me that I get good watermelon this week, I went to the local grocery store and asked the produce manager to show me how to pick out a good watermelon!

FYI, you want to look for one with a dark brown, dried stem. That usually means it's fully ripe.

You also want to do the smack test, and listen for that hollow water sound. He said watermelons that have interior cracks sound different than watermelons that are whole and juicy.

He helped me pick one out, told me the best brand his store carries (of the 2 brands/types that were there), and it's AWESOME!!!

Between this and the organic peaches that showed up last week, I feel like we just fast-forwarded to July!

oh man...I'm drooling! I have a thing about buying in season so we'll be waiting until they show up at our Farmer's Market, but I'm not against eating watermelon that other people have bought lol Friends had some at their house this weekend and it was soooo good! They bought it at Costco and I was seriously tempted to go the next day to get some for me!

Enjoy!!

My little Safeway had mini watermelons on sale for $1.50 each, so I picked one up - and it was glorious. I love those tiny ones, but they are usually a ridiculous price.

And OMG!!!!! My peaches are in season!!!!! And no admission fee this year??? AWESOME - now instead of admission with free rides, it's free admission and paid rides. YIPPEEE. Only, sadness - I did not see anything about plums this year. My favorite.... they must have some, but maybe a smaller crop....
