molar pain

my toddler is getting his first molar, and he's not getting any sleep unless I give him motrin and nurse him frequently throughout the night. I don't mind so much nursing, but I'm concerned I'm giving too much motrin. He's been getting the motrin just about each night for the past week and a half because without, he won't stop crying. Do other mamas out there give this much? The homeopathic teething tablets and drops are not helping at night, although I do find that they help for naps. Any other suggesitons?

I just wanted to say Hi and hope things get better. I'm not sure what else you could give to your little one for the teething pain. I used some homeopathic med that was called "teething relief" when my 4yr old was cutting molars and it did seem to help him sleep. I would call your dc's pediatrician and ask for advice on what to give if you are worried about giving Motrin. I would say only having to give it at night isn't such a big deal myself. But I'm not a doctor either. Good luck!

My daughter had a TERRIBLE time with all her teeth coming in (we are down to the last four now - hurray!) We are generally holistic, natural remedy kind of moms, but Motrin was the only thing that helped so that she could even function (day or night.) We tried the homeopathic alternatives, and every other remedy known to mother-kind but our daughter couldn't sleep, couldn't eat, and just constantly tantrumed, especially with her eye teeth and molars.

Our pediatrician said that 3 or 4 weeks straight would be ok. We never used that much. We also tried to give it to her on a full stomach, and to use it as little as possible. I don't know what the long-term consequences are, but I also don't think that being in constant pain for weeks on end is very good for her health and well-being and development.

Best wishes - those teeth will eventually come in!
