A Florida mother caught on tape using a pressurized hose at a car wash to discipline her toddler daughter could end up in hot water after police meet Friday to consider filing child endangerment charges.

“She appeared [to be] a parent who thought she was disciplining her child for acting up. It’s a unique form of punishment that I don’t think anyone has ever seen,” Commander Matt Irwin of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said Friday on TODAY. “It’s not acceptable in my mind.”

The incident began on Feb. 24 when a white Hyundai Elantra pulled into a self-service bay at the Magical Car Wash in Orlando.

I cannot fathom how this would not result in child abuse charges. I don't care if the pressure of the hose was less than the maximum and they can't find marks on the girl.

This makes me so mad. I have access to very large fire engines and as I was telling my boss about this story, I asked if I could borrow one to show the woman what it feels like.

except the owner says that she saw the woman using the hose as a hose(no water pressure) so it would be like spraying her with a spraying water house not a pressure washer. And no I am not saying it's ok but I think it's important. A pressure washer absolute child abuse take her kids, a water hose she needs some parenting classes and learn better discipline.

I think I'd rather be hit than hosed off with ice cold water, outside, in March. I'm not sure what the temperature was outside in FL that day, but if you live in FL it's going to feel like "late winter/early spring" weather even if it's warm enough for Canadians to go swimming. Being hit sounds like less of a physical, full body reaction than being hosed off in such a manner.

But is it abuse if she made sure the water pressure wasn't too rough and then dried the girl off immediately afterwards? She may have thought she was being careful and safe and appropriate. I don't think criminal charges are appropriate here, but an open CPS case to make sure she takes parenting classes and doesn't abuse either child when the new baby is born?- that sounds good to me.

It makes me wonder what other abuse this poor little girl has endured.

My initial thoughts are a UV violation.

Given that this Mom is pregnant, I'm hoping that some sort of parenting education can be used with her. My dream would be for police departments and CPS to have a stable of AP educators who could do a one week or one month live-in with these families and really really teach them other ways to raise their children.

I don't think throwing the Mama in jail resolves much.

This is so disturbing... poor girl. She doesn't look like she's "out of control" while she's walking out of the car over to where her mom is... she doesn't start freaking out until her mom sprays her. How sad.

I can't see that using a hose, any type of hose with high pressure or not, is an acceptable form of discipline. It is meant to degrade a child to get them to behave the way you want them to.

The mom needs parenting classes pronto and needs to be followed by CPS to make sure she learns the skills she needs to raise her children without abusing them.

Seriously, peeing in a car warrants being hosed down? UGH!!!

I agree. I think that woman obviously need some help, but I don't think that she honestly believed she would hurt her child.

People like this should not be allowed to be parents. Shame she could not use a more postive method in her creativity....simply evil.

A friend of a friend who is hispanic (her preferred word) said that it is racist for people to think this mother was abuse. The mother tested the water. She hugged her daughter after. They think it is a cultural thing. I'm not so sure, but want to be open minded. Thougths?

cultural?
Hugging a child after publicly humiliating them, wetting their clothing...is a little bit of out of control parenting...what message does that send a child you are okay after I have punished you enough...

when its obvious the child was not in full tantrum sounds to me like the person is embarrassed the woman seemed to be spanish speaking...
its not racist..if she spoke english, italian, chinese we'd all feel the same way..

pressure hosing a child is cruel in any language.
crap people would be outraged if she pressure hosed her german sheppard...

Give me a freaking break. I grew up in L.A. which has a very high Latin American population and have never heard of the this before.

She said "I'm not going to hit you NOW", meaning:

a.) She thought the little girl was thinking she was going to- why??
b.) The word 'now'. Full stop. I am pretty sure that she has before.

WOW! Nice.
Where did my post go on this thread go? I can only imagine.

Once again I agree with Ruthla.

You just dont really know others situations until you are in their shoes. Not saying she was right at all. I personally thought it was horrific. Just saying, you dont know her situation.

Yeah, that's what I thought, too. Sometimes she's frustrating w/ her opinions and she does tend to think she speaks for all Latin Americans.
