Mom saves breast milk as she goes off to war

A story you won't hear on the front lines of Operating Iraqi Freedom. An Oklahoma mom has 10 gallons of breast milk frozen for her baby boy. Every mom, who is called to serve our country, spends hours preparing to leave her children. Here is the story of one mom that will leave her son with the most precious gift she has to give.

wow.
I think it is awesome that she still decided to breastfeed and pump that enourmous amount of milk for her baby but I wish that mothers didn't have to go off to war.
KUDOS. There is a small video clip also. Liked her cute smile and a determined countenance.

That makes me just cry that she has to go leave her precious ds for this war. How unfair. But yeah for her for pumping like crazy for him. What a mom.

Um, isn't she gonna be really, really engorged when she leaves?

It's sick and disgusting that people like this mama are having to leave their babies and risk their lives for no good reason at all

The video clip said she was taking her pump w/ her to basic training.

Yup, she is taking her breastpump! I also think it is so sad that she has to leave. I am pretty sure that 6 months (or was it 4?) when the mom is eligible for deployment, TDYs, etc.

Side note: Mom also has to report back to work and be in the same fittness level as BEFORE she was pregnant at 6 weeks ppd. Not hard to see why not too many military mommys breastfeed.

Hmm, that hasn't been our experience in the Army. Mothers are given the option to get out when they are expecting and when they come back they are given at least 6 months, one mom I know was given a year, to be able to pass a PT test.

Not sure if the out option is given when there is a stoploss.

God bless you,
Celina

P.S. My husband has been in for quite a while, I know he is probably the exception but whenever he has had the opportunity to help an active duty mom, especially a breastfeeding active duty mom, he goes out of his way to make sure she is accomodated if he can help it at all.

Wow. That is SO GREAT! I would hope that all military personnel would do the same. You have one incredible dh!
